Even when the app language and “Fluency” settings are both set to Japanese, the genre display appears in Japanese on the Mac app but in English on the iPad app. It would seem natural for the display to follow the app settings, so why does the iPad app show it in English? Incidentally—though I haven’t attached proof—the Android app also displays in English.

This looks like a locale mismatch between platforms rather than a problem with your library data.
It would be useful to grab a set of local iOS Roon logs from the iPad, if possible.
Please use the directions found here and send over a set of iOS mobile logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

Thanks for sending the logs over, that was exactly what we needed, and the screenshots helped a lot too.
I’ve been through both sets, and I can confirm what you’re seeing is real and reproducible in the diagnostics. A couple of things I can tell you at this point:
This isn’t your library data or your settings. Your Japanese language preference is reaching Roon Server correctly from the iPad. Every metadata request Roon Server made on the iPad’s behalf during your browsing sessions went out with Japanese as the preferred language, so the preference is being stored and transmitted the way it should be. Nothing you’ve configured is wrong, and there’s nothing further you need to change on your end.
The genre names are handled separately from the rest of the metadata. Looking at the logs, the genre labels on the browse screen don’t come down from our metadata service the way artist bios and album details do, they’re rendered locally by each app. That’s why you can have the page heading show correctly as ジャンル on the iPad while the genre tiles underneath it stay in English, and why the Mac behaves differently from the iPad and Android despite all three pointing at the same Roon Server and the same profile. It’s a display-layer difference between the platforms, not a metadata one.
I’ve also spotted a second, related inconsistency in how the language preference is being applied on the Roon Server side that I want the team to look at alongside this. It’s a separate thread from the genre labels, but it’s in the same area and it makes sense to investigate them together.
I’ve passed all of this to the team with the log analysis attached. I don’t have a timeline to share yet, but I’ll update this thread as soon as I hear back. Thanks for your patience, and for the detailed report, the side-by-side screenshots made the difference here.
