Getting my Roon music on my new server back into my Roon Library

Here are a number of screen shots.

Hey @Tim_deCocq,

Thanks for sharing your screenshots! Apologies if this has been discussed, but what is the source of your ‘Music Folder’ that has already been added to your storage settings:

Perhaps this is the source causing your ‘This folder is already added’ pop up?

You can click the three dots to edit and review its location and path. Let me know if this may be the case!

Here is a screen shot when I press the 3 dots and another when I elected ti import Itunes in case Roon put my library there. Unfortunately, no luck; no Roon music library can be found. When I went to the Apple Store with my new MBAir they advised contacting you guys as they knew nothing about Roon. I am depending on you.

Hi @Tim_deCocq ,

Thanks for your patience here as we’ve had a chance to look over this issue in more detailed. Looking over your screenshots, I think I see the crux of the issue:

It looks like Roon is Unauthorized to read that folder. Please try to go your Mac privacy settings and ensure Roon has full disk access:

Let us know if this helps!

Hello, I believe that the problem migrating my Library to my new Roon server has been solved, and I thank you very much, it’s been a long haul.
When I go into settings - General - Album display most of the toggles are on,“Yes”, as I want the album art. However, some of my albums which I thought had artwork no longer do. I realize that not all albums have artwork but how can I tell for sure? I don’t think I want bootleg art, as I fear that alll my artwork will be changed. Another easy question is: how do i arrange my albums into Genre’s? Thank you

If you’re expecting artwork that doesn’t come from Roon:

  • look in the albums folder on the disk to check if there is a jpg file in it, probably named cover.jpg or folder.jpg. (Maybe
  • use a tag editor to check if the tracks have artwork embedded

How do you mean, arrange?

If your files have file tags with genres, you can tell Roon in Settings > Library that it should prefer these genres, how the genres from the file tags should map to Roon genres, or that it should use only your genres:

You can also simply use Roon‘s genres and you can edit those in the album editor:

The genres can be viewed either by going to sidebar > Genres:

Or you can go to My Albums, My Artists, etc., and use the Focus feature to zoom in on specific genres. The Focus also lets you add additional criteria:

Thank you.
2 more issues please:
(1) As per your previous instructions last week. Since I enabled Roon to have Full Disc Access in my servers Privacy settings; which enabled the full migration of music to my Roon music Library, I have a continuous circular spinning arrow that runs in all of my Roon menu options at the top of each page. Now that I have all my music in my Library, should I disable Full Roon Disc Access in my server, or simply not worry about it.
(2) I have numerous Duplicate albums in my Library. When I tried to delete one of them, I lost both albums permanently from the hard drive. I have numerous other duplicates, but I don’t want to try to delete in fear of deleting them permanently. Thanks again for all your assistance!
Tim

Glad if it helped

What does it say when you click the spinning icon? There should be a message displayed. Maybe it’s simply not finished with the importing.

(Normally, when all is finished, there should be no spinning icon, Full Disk Access or not. (Even if it has Full Disk Access, it only imports music from the locations that you set up in Roon > Storage)).

You can, by the way, choose whether the audio analysis during importing uses most or all resources (in which case it’s faster but using Roon in the meantime may be choppy) or if it shall be benign and analyze more slowly, but leaving resources for interactive usage. You do this in Settings > Library > Background Audio Analysis Speed.

In any case, depending on the size of your library the importing may take some time. I’d give it time, the spinning icon does not hurt anything except being annoying.

It’s also possible that the metadata retrieval got stuck during importing, and then the icon is also stuck spinning. In this case, you get the “Metadata improver: Halted” message when clicking the spinning icon. In this case, a reboot of the Roon server should normally make it go away.

Finally, it is possible that it got stuck on a corrupted file or problematic file tags:

There is currently a known issue where some albums can displayed twice, even though they actually exist only once. Maybe this affects you.

The sign for this is if you select one of these albums (by performing a rightclick on the album, or, on the Mac, you can also Ctrl-Click. On phones and tablets, do a long tap on the album), then both show as selected. In addition, the number of albums shown under the “My Albums” heading is wrong, i.e., it shows “xxx of yyy” while xxx is a higher number than yyy, which should be impossible.

The issue goes away temporarily if you restart the Roon server, but may come back with time. (A typical trigger seems to be if you sort My Albums by artist names and then scroll for a while).

This was reported by me and others here:

(Note: this is a long-running thread that lumps various similar issues together. One issue was a splitting of Various Artists albums into two or more parts, with each having only a subset of the tracks. This were resolved, but the visual duplication is different, insofar each duplicate shows all tracks and they have the described behavior when selecting one of them. This issue seems to have recently come back or was not ever completely solved, it’s unclear)

and here:

Roon is working on this, hopefully they will really fix it this time around. Until then, I recommend:

  • Reboot the Roon server, to limit the occurrence of the issue.
  • If you are not sure if an album really exists twice or is only displayed twice (or more times), perform the selection test as described above.

Hello @Tim_deCocq

Thank you for the detailed description of both issues. @Suedkiez has provided guidance regarding the spinning icon and the duplicate albums, including steps to check if the duplicates are real or just visual, and advice on waiting for imports to complete or rebooting the server if needed.

Could you please let us know if you still have any questions or if anything remains unclear after following those instructions?

This will help us ensure you have everything you need to resolve both issues.

Your solutions are way too complicated and indecipherable however, I will try to click on the spinning arrow and see what happens. Just to let you know, Roon is a full time job and sometimes a wonder if it is worth all the bother. Don’t close my file, I will try to understand what you are telling me and reply again as soon as possible.

Hi @Tim_deCocq,

Take your time - we’ll be monitoring for your reply and results. Thank you!

Hey @Tim_deCocq,

I wanted to quickly check in and see if you were able to run through the above? We’re here to help! :folded_hands:
