Google Nest Hub as a Roon Display

For what it’s worth, I’d like to see that working properly too.

I hope this gets fixed eventually, right now I am having to cast a custom tab through Home Assistant to interact with Roon in the meantime.

This Feature Request (along with many others) now has a ‘Vote’ box at the top, so get voting!

Checking the latest standings in the “Feature Suggestions” table, getting the Google Hub to work as a display currently has the highest number of votes (36) of all the many suggestions. More even than the much-discussed remote/mobile version of Roon.

Its been about 3 years now since this was first raised so it wold be nice to see the most requested feature get some attention.

38 votes now!

Has anyone tested Google Nest Hub (gen 2) to confirm how Roon works with it? Is now the screen information permanent?

I have sold my v1 hub because I have seen no progress from RoonLabs in fixing the issue with the permanent displaying of ChromeCast playback status on this product.

I have the Gen 2 Hub. The same problem still occurs unfortunately.

My nest hub developed display problem so I don’t care now.

Times like this make me wish Roon was open source, so this could be fixed already. Other open source apps like Home Assistant have had no issues streaming Dashboard to the Nest Hub for years now.

Just bought a Google Home Nest version 2a.
Just checkin in to see of there is a worksround to make Roon say a little more than ”Playing Roon”

It would be nice to be able to use my Google Nest Hub as a display for Roon. I’ve been a full lifetime Roon subscriber for several years now and have been looking for something in the way of this or a similar form-factor that would let me control and display Roon. Unfortunately there’s not much for options out there. I appreciate the request for features like this. It’s a shame that this can’t be addressed and others that are seemingly of less utility are making their way to being released.

If you want to add your vote - click the Vote button at the top of the thread - that’s what counts as a vote…

The Google Nest Hub is now half-price in Black Friday deals. Which will increase the install base of this neat device.
I like it as a display for Roon, though not very useful since it’s not a permanent display. I support the feature request.

I have and at 61 votes currently that may make it the vote ‘leader’? Is there a table anywhere of Features and votes?

After all this time I get the impression there is some severe technical issue in getting this to work (more complicated than just Chromecast …?), otherwise it would be done by now. It would be nice to know if this is ever going to be done and if not what the issue is. I think these devices are 3 years old now.

Just bought my second hub in the Black November sales.

Display the Topics in the Feature Suggestions category, and then click on “Votes” to see the list in ranked order of Votes.

+1 Very interested to have this functionality please.

+1 interested

Noris,

I am definitely interested as I have 1 Hub Max and 2 second gen hubs and their integration would really enhance my whole system.

I have found a way for the Google Nest Hub to have the display of what Roon is playing on a constant basis.
The idea is as follows:

  • In the Chrome browser on any computer, we show the “Web Display” that Roon tells us in the Display tab in Settings. (for instance: http://192.168.1.203:9330/display/)
  • We send the Display of our Roon device to that browser.
  • From Chrome we cast to the Google Nest Hub the corresponding tab.

I have tested it and does not jump the damn Google Nest screensaver.

That’s what I’ve done occasionally as well while waiting for the real fix. Generally speaking I don’t bother though, since it’s a hassle to have to use the computer as the proxy.

Ok, but sometimes it is nice to have a workaround in case the scenario fits with yours. In my case it is fine when I’m working at my desktop, I can just take a look at the Nest Hub to see what is playing at this moment, no need to look among different windows open in the computer. In case I’m listening without the computer it is enough for me to have a look at the phone block screen.
