Grimm MU2 with integrated Roon Core

While high-priced at ~$18K, the Grimm MU2 is still not as crazy expensive as other bespoke DAC/streamers/preamps. Plus, the Grimm MU2 will have an integrated Roon Core. Just add a power amp and your favorite passive speakers. I’ll be intrigued when it makes its production debut later in the year. I guess this is one instance where @danny won’t suggest that the Roon Core reside outside your listening room!

I heard the MU1 with a Dave and the thing was spectacular.

I had planned to trade in my Bartok (potentially) for the Dave and have this fed by the Grimm.

I held back because of the cost but also because I wanted to try the Grimm feeding the Bartok and also the Tambaqui which I also demo’d at the time.

Mostly down to their reclocking music was just so detailed with amazing depth but oh so natural sounding. I took a playlist of crappy 80s recordings as well as superb modern recordings and absolutely nothing was harsh or digital sounding. Quite an amazing piece of gear.

I am interested in the MU2 now as well to see whether it can replace the DAC all in one unit!

I am feeding my DAC into the Feliks Envy - using headphones (Susvara & Meze Elite) rather than speakers.

Any report from some lucky soul w/ the MU2.

I would like to know too

So I bought the MU1 second hand and paired it with my Bartók. I was planning to replace the Bartók for the Dave but I liked it rather a lot…everything I threw at it just sounded really nice. I liked it more than the Dave combo. Loads of detail but quite relaxed. The MU1 will change depending on which DAC you connect it to. It made the Bartók sound its best. Some tracks especially were just unbelievable on this system.

3 few months ago I couldn’t resist and I auditioned heard the MU2 with a Feliks Envy (my still current head amp) and I immediately upgraded to the MU2…

It is ridiculously good. So; with the MU1 everything sounds great, some things are even spectacular.

With the MU2 absolutely everything is spectacular. It’s probably the best piece of audio equipment I have ever heard.

I hear the detail and soundstage of Dave. The bass is deep and powerful but never muddy. Vocals are intimate and soulful.

If you read reviews they are all rather gushing and seem a little OTT but it just gives you the magic and soul of the music in incredible fidelity. I’m not sure how they achieved this.

Have a listen if you can.

Bought one last month, and I concur – the Grimm MU2 is just wonderful. Great detail, full range, but always musical. Well worth saving up the bucks.
