Description of the issue

There are two versions of this album on Tidal, one AAC with 12 tracks and one FLAC with 10 tracks (basically 2 extra tracks in the aac version).
I grouped the two albums and the FLAC version is selected as primary as expected. I know I can select the alternate version if I want to listen to the extra tracks, but is there an easy way to have the album by default show and play the 12 tracks with the first 10 in FLAC and the remaining 2 in AAC?

The only way you can do this that I can think of, is to create a playlist.

You could maybe merge the two albums and then hide the unwanted duplicate tracks

It worked by merging the albums and deleting the unwanted tracks. I guess hiding the tracks as you suggest would do the job as well.
