Describe the issue

Grouped Endpoints are not in Sync - any way to adjust?
My Roon server is via Innuos Zen, my 2 Endpoints are 1) Naim NSS333 streamer 2) JBL Charge 5 WiFi
They are out of sync by perhaps up to 1 second, so that it is not possible to play more than 1 Endpoint at any one time

Describe your network setup

Router is an EE (ISP), Roon server is Innuos Zen which is hardwired to the router

Hi @ChrisH,

Thank you for reaching Roon support, and for the details you’ve shared so far.

To better understand why your grouped endpoints are drifting out of sync, the next step would normally be to enable diagnostics on your account so our technical team can review what the Roon Server is reporting.

Before I do that, could you please reproduce the issue once more and note the exact local time when the sync discrepancy occurs? Once you share that timestamp here, I’ll enable diagnostics and forward the relevant logs to our team.

I’ve been keeping an eye on our servers in the meantime, waiting for the diagnostic package to arrive. For some reason, however, your Innuos Zen isn’t reaching our diagnostic endpoint — even after re-enabling diagnostics on your account. I also ran a test on my side and was able to submit a similar report from my own setup, so the issue appears to be specific to your environment.

To move forward, could you please manually upload your logs?

  1. Follow the instructions here to locate your Roon logs:
    https://kb.roonlabs.com/Logs
  2. Upload the logs to our secure uploader:
    https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/collection/8i5239cc05950ac07456889838d9319545a82/external

Once the upload is complete, just let us know. We’ll review the logs right away and continue troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @vadim
Many thanks for your post and instructions.
I started playing the 2 devices in a Group at 21:22hrs local UK time.
I am just looking at the details for how to access and send you the logs, I am not a techie, hopefully will grab them for you.
Chris

OK, zipped logs just sent over at 21:39hrs local UK time.
Thanks for taking a look Vadim, much appreciated.
Chris

Hey @ChrisH,

Thanks so much for the additional info! Your logs do show measurable clock drift between the two devices, and the JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi in particular has significantly more drift than the Naim NSS 333:

Naim Audio NSS 333 drift: -1.867 ppm (≈ -6.7 ms per hour)
JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi drift: -25.892 ppm (≈ -93.2 ms per hour)

Drift figures at 21:22:52:

Naim Audio NSS 333 drift: +7.561 ppm (≈ +27.2 ms per hour)
JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi drift: -10.658 ppm (≈ -38.4 ms per hour)

It looks like the JBL’s drift is typically 3–10× larger than the Naim.

Consumer LinkPlay-based devices (JBL Charge Wi-Fi uses LinkPlay chipset) tend to have weaker clock stability compared to high-end devices like Naim.

That said - Roon is correcting the drift, your logs also contain repeated:

sync JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi -> Naim Audio NSS 333 result: Success

This means RAAT is continuously pulling the JBL back into alignment. It’s clear this is not enough if you can audibly hear the drift occurring.

As a first step - I’d eliminate wifi if at all possible. That would be the most effective and easiest test to implement - see if the same issues occur.

We’ll be monitoring for your reply and response! :+1:

Thanks for investigating.
Unfortunately I am not able to change the network set up though:
The Naim NS333 is hardwired to the router via Ethernet already
The JBL Charge 5 WiFi cannot be hardwired so I cannot eliminate Wi-Fi.

Disappointing but it would seem that is as it is.
Not the end of the world as I didn’t seek out the JBL Roon Ready device for grouping specifically, though being able to sync with my main system was a neat feature.
I just hadn’t taken into account the different clock stability between the devices.

If there are any other workarounds or ideas you have do let me know, otherwise many thanks for looking into this issue.

Hey @ChrisH,

You could test out playing with the Resync delay tool - it could help push a short delay for the Naim endpoint that may help align it with the JBL.

Here’s more info on Resync Delay:

500ms is a good starting point. If that doesn’t work, try gradually increasing it from there. :+1:

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have had a go to try and get an accurate sync and whilst I can get close, I am not able to get it bang on.
And a slight mismatch also doesnt work unfortunately.
I will keep on dabbling, see if I can achieve a closer sync match.
But I think for now I get the reason why they are not exactly sync’d and I have probably got as far as I am able to, so I am happy for the thread to be closed.
Thanks for your help and advice guys
