HARMAN acquiring Sound United (Denon, Marantz, etc.)

Masimo is selling off its Sound United acquisition after only three years. How shocking that a health technology company was not successful in running an A/V consumer electronics subsidiary. Roon, Denon, and Marantz all will be under the same umbrella.

Maybe D&M will finally dump HEOS and adopt Roon as their music distribution protocol.

For those of us that enjoy Denon - Marantz products as well as the other brands this seems a much better home than the rather tortured fit into a company leading in biosensors …

Combining the consumer focus of HEOS with ROONs audiophile capabilities opens many possibilities - all backed by the behemoth which is SAMSUNG.

Let’s hope this leads to further innovation fo all.

I expect that some level of Roon server functionality will be integrated into Denon/Marantz AVP/AVR components, starting at the high end and trickling down over several product cycles. This probably will require and be predicated on Roon server (or a pared down version) being compiled for ARM compatibility.

I hope they will speed up Roon Readiness for the remaining Marantz/Denon and Classé products now.

I have two Marantz and one Classé units and I am a Roon lover. So it seems good to me, but who knows what the future brings.

Make no mistake, the acquisition of B&W, Denon and Marantz by Roon’s owner Harman International will lead to increased Roon adoption and tighter integration among those brands. Good news!

Sounds interesting. Might we get some proper multichannel support from reasonably mass-market D&M devices now?

The agreed $350m cash sale, subject to certain adjustments, will see the Samsung-owned company take in legendary hi-fi brands Bowers & Wilkins, Denon and Marantz, as well as Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, Classé, HEOS and Boston Acoustics, expanding its extensive AV catalogue.

It’s a bit concerning for the audio market how cheap they are.

Only three years ago, US medical company Masimo acquired those eight audio brands from high-end audio business Sound United for $1.025bn

Ouch

Agree - this price is ridiculously small! Consortium ROON lovers?

They paid a Billion for it so massive loss.

Yep. I’m guessing someone is loosing or has lost a job over this. That big a write down was not in the original plans.

They sacked the CEO already as one major shareholder kicked up a fuss about them losing money on their investment before they decided to sell.

That’s what I meant when I wrote „ouch“

With +300k alleged Roon subscribers, if everyone pays 1k we could own all of these brands

Its time for another „feature suggestion“?

I guess they held the former CEO and Masimo founder accountable for this acquisition (and the resulting financial inconveniences). Somewhen last year it was announced he was stepping back and the audio investment has been completely written off by the end of 2024.

I have Denon and Marantz gear, B&W speakers, Samsung TVs and Roon. Happy it will be all under one umbrella and hoping for tighter intertration of the products.
