Help with "Add Network Share" for backup on a Mac

Please help me start the New Year right!

I’ve tried various permutations of the file path to the Roon backup folder location and followed advice on previous posts but all to no avail. Not sure if this is a Roon or Mac question. Any suggestions? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Your screenshot (presumably just one of the permutations that you have tried) has at least two errors:

  • the Network share location field has invalid content. You appear to be using the Mac’s internal filepath to the folder, and not the Network format (smb://<Mac's hostname>/<shared folder name>).
  • you have not entered the username and password required to access the shared folder.

Please read the FAQ on adding a Mac’s shared folder as a Watched Folder - this is the same procedure as for adding a shared folder to use as a Backup folder.

Thanks for the feedback Geoff. I assure you that I did my level best following the documentation but readily confess that I am technologically challenged. Sometimes the instructions themselves include seemingly obvious steps but my inexperience prevents me from even understanding exactly how to implement the step. Having read up in the community before purchasing Roon it was clear to me many folks way more savvy than I had experienced set up challenges and software difficulties, hence I concluded I needed the Nucleus since it offered simple turnkey simplicity. Sadly, not for such as I. I’m the type of Mac user who has Apple Support on speed dial. But I’m convinced the effort to get Roon up and running will be worth it in the end. Other challenges I’ve faced is somehow not having the opportunity to update firmware at initial launch and now having just 3 out of 50 Tidal playlists transfer to Roon library, and having duplicates of those three playlists created when I sync Tidal library. Oh good grief. I’m taking today off and will come back at this in the fresh light of the new year. I appreciate your willingness and the willingness of this community to help us novices! See you in ‘24!
