Help with the Parametric Equalizer

I’ve only recently dove into the word of DAP, high-end headphones, and Roon. So, as a relative newbie, don’t hate me for this question. This is the first time I’ve encountered a parametric equalizer. I’ve done a lot of web reading on how they work and do appreciate their advantages over the more common graphical EQ.

I guess I’m not enough of a hard-core audiophile at this point, but I find the process of creating my own EQ settings in Roon/Muse tedious and not very rewarding. Is there any way to import presets for the PEQ in Roon? I’d rather have a series of these to choose from and then tweak to my liking, as opposed to just blindly starting from fresh.

Hi Glenn

Agreed, it can be very tedious starting in the dark. There isn’t a direct import feature that I’m aware of but there are some very useful websites that can generate the settings for you to type in. These websites let you pick from a number of target frequency responses like Harman, JM-1 and what reviewers think sounds best to them.

https://autoeq.app/ - Probably the easiest starting point. Choose your headphones, then Custom Parametric EQ for the app. You can choose different targets, fiddle with the bass etc on the web page and listen. Then when you’re happy copy across the result to Roon.

https://squig.link/ - A lot here but have a look at the help. The Auto EQ function under equaliser is what you want. It’s a similar idea. I personally find the interface better for doing adjustments and it has more targets but it’s probably a bit less easy if you’re getting started.

Hope those help.

Ah yes I’d forgotten about that new addition. The only thing I’d say is the targets available seem pretty limited in my experience, generally just the AutoEQ target for the headphones I own but if you happen to have more available for you model then it’ll be the easiest.
