Hello, please help me assemble the connection diagram correctly.
Holo audio DAC may kte, Roon (intel nuc), my Red and a separate powerful PC with hqplayer desktop will arrive soon.
Now I’m listening to dsd 1024 via roon and hqplayer (connected via usb to May). Where transport is Roon. In the evening, when it’s already late, I don’t use a powerful PC (it makes noise when working with hqplayer), but listen through the Wiim Pro plus (coax) transport, I want to give it up.
When my Red arrives, I want to save the circuit so that I can turn off the powerful PC in the evening, for silence, but be able to listen through the Roon transport, but without the Wiim.
How can I properly organize the overall scheme and what OS to flash Ed.
I want to receive:
Roon>Hqplayer>dsd1024>Red>DSD 1024>May.
Roon>Red (or immediately May)>May.
I need both of these options to be taken into account at once, so I can choose to use one of them, without physically switching wires.
Yes, it’s possible; I’m using the Red in a similar way connected to the May.
With HQPlayer: Roon → HQPlayer–> Red Lan → Red USB out → May
Without HQPlayer: Roon → Red Lan → Red I2S out → May
On the Red I’ve installed Ropieee (Red OS uses an older NAA) and activated there the NAA client.
In Roon you’ll see at first two endpoints for the Red and you’ve to activate only the one, which uses I2S. The other one uses then HQPlayer.
While changing from playing with and without HQPlayer, you’ve to switch the May input (from USB to I2S 1 or 2) and also choice in Roon the right device.
Others (my PC is not strong enough and also I don’t think - see measures from Jussi - it makes sense to use more then DSD512 with the May) are able to use DSD1024 with the Red.
This thread is excellent, just the information I was looking for.
@Burkhardt_Petermann if I may ask, does that setup also work with just one connection between Red and the DAC? I assume it would, just wondering if one can change the signal path (Roon Ready vs NAA) independently of the connection between the two (USB vs I2S).
Also a bonus question that you might know the answer to: does the Red automatically switch to a different streaming protocol? Say you have Roon Ready actively streaming, if you initiate Tidal Connect form a phone, can it overtake automatically from Roon Ready?
I am trying to build a family friendly setup but it’s really hard to find information about the ergonomics of different devices from reviews etc.
With one connection, you’ve to change before every “switch” the settings in Roon and restart HQPlayer.
HQPlayer and Roon are needing exclusive the DAC and so you can here with one cable only use the RED as Roon endpoint or NAA client.
Use USB with HQPlayer and I2S with RAAT, this would be the best solution.
