When I bought my red, it was promised that this would be avialable via ‘future release’. A year or so later adn this is still the case, what happened? Did Holo Audio just abandon the device or have I missed something?
Better not trust any rosy promises in audiophile territory - too many bad examples around.
It’s just like expecting better sound from bigger numbers.
I would write them directly to ask this question.
Apart from that, how do you like the Red with Roon?
I believe that if you use the naa os on it, then it will do extreme bitrates. Ask in the hqplayer thread.
I have obtained DSD1024 and 1,5Mhz with the Red USB. On page 2 of the user manual, it states that with RopieeeXL OS it will do these rates over I2S - I have not tested this claim.
For the money, it gives very good performance and I went for it mainly because a) I use a Holo Spring 3 KTE as one of my DACs so it can feed straight into it and b) its oversampling capabilities. Not many streamers/transport that potentially sound better, or review better, do this. To be honest, I dont know why I’d ever want to change it at this point.
I also currently do use the NAA OS from Signalyst. Its limited to 768k
Thats interesting, thank you. So, it seems that its more of a software update rather than a hardware/firmware update thats holding it back. So far as I can tell, RopieeXL isnt available? Looking at the search history, it was released in 2019 and then pulled.
RoPieeeXL is just RoPieee now.
How if you have not tested? ![]()
DSD1024, any music recorded, mastered and released yet?
I wouldn’t get caught up in all this.
I have compatible equipment to replay DSD512, however I’m happy sticking with DSD64 as a max. I don’t perceive any great differences above 24/48.
Via USB is straightforward and I typically use the USB output from the Red into the Spring 3. I just wanted to try the I2S to compare the output connections and its more that I dont like feeling I’m leaving something on the table via HQPlayer upscaling.
If you read my comment again, I have not tested the I2S DSD 1024 but tested USB DSD 1024.
