How to prevent Banned and hidden tracks from being played f.e. on shuffle play [Ticket In, Fix Pending]

Hi,

I play roon rock with only on frustration. I like to keep my library in high quality. So when Tidal has a better version of a track or Album I hide my own version and ban it. Assuming it will not play the banned and hidden when on random/shuffle play. It does play it though. How can i prevent this?

Hello @Marten_van_Heusden,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

To help us better understand what’s happening, could you please let us know from where you’re playing the track — for example, from an album, playlist, artist page, or shuffle across your entire library?

Also, please share the exact name of the track you’ve banned, and try to reproduce the issue once more so we can review what’s happening.

Thanks!

I was playing all tracks in shuffle play. It was a george benson song from his live album.
Song: We as Love
Allbum weekend in LA
Playd it between 11 and 12 this morning CET

Hope this helps.

Hey @Marten_van_Heusden,

Thanks for sending a set of logs over! We see the song you mention and it’s playback - but don’t see any signs of it being banned specifically.

Could you share a screenshot of the ban? Can you confirm you’re on the same Roon profile when this occurs?

If you could, please re-ban a track, reboot your Roon Server, and let me know if the same issue occurs.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :folded_hands:

So i have the tidal version as primary and my private version banned and hidden.

Just now i played Rollin’ by kool & the gang. Again in shuffle play of all my tracks. This track is banned too. I took these screen shots.

Hello @Marten_van_Heusden

Thank you for the update and for providing examples.

We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.

You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.

No Worries, Vadim. Happe to help if there’s a need.

We have everything we need for now - thank you @Marten_van_Heusden for your responsiveness so far! We should have some more information and next steps to share before the end of the week. :folded_hands:

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· When shuffling my local library tracks from albums I've banned still appear.
I'm running roon server 2.57 build 1598 but the issue described has always been a problem.

Tell us about your home network

· I don't believe this issue is network related, but my router is a TP-Link Archer AX53

Banning only means that it won’t be autoplayed by Roon Radio or on the higher level (e.g., if you play an album, a banned track within it won’t play)

However, you still can play banned items explicitly (which is a good thing).

Therefore, if you shuffle tracks, banned tracks will be included.

Possible solutions:

  • If you don’t want to access banned tracks, ever, try to hide them in addition to banning them. (This requires that they are in your Roon library, which is not the case for banning)
  • Alternatively, create a Focus that excludes banned tracks, prior to shuffling them

Hey @Stewart_Wood

Thanks for performing that test, we have added this info to the investigation ticket. The ticket has been submitted for developer review, meaning that this may take some time to be reviewed.

There aren’t any additional details needed at this time, so we will go ahead and close the thread for the time being, and if any other questions arise after the developers have reviewed the case, we will re-open the thread and reach out once more.

Thanks again for your report, and thank you in advance for your patience as the ticket progresses through the development queue for review.

Hello @Marten_van_Heusden ,

I know it’s been some time since we last spoke, but I wanted to reach out to you since the team has been looking into your report further. We’ve just enabled an additional diagnostics mode for your account, can we kindly ask that you reboot your Roon Server twice, reproduce the issue again, and let us know the exact local time + date + track/album when you next experience this behavior? Once we have that information, we’ll review the diagnostics and pass them to our dev team for further processing, thank you!

Hey @Marten_van_Heusden,

Just checking in on this, it has been a bit since our last note. Were you able to reboot your Roon Server twice and reproduce the issue again? If it happens again, please send us the exact local date and time, along with the track or album that was playing, so we can review the diagnostics we enabled on your account. Thanks, and let us know if you have any updates.

I’ll check this weekend. In the meantime I’ve doene a full reboot for other reasons. But now I’m sure that every hidden track is also banned. If I get to it I’ll send an update this weekend.

Hi @Marten_van_Heusden,

Ok, here’s where we stand at long last after investigating: this is a bug. The team has a fix in the pipeline.

The library shuffle should respect the Ban feature just like Roon Radio; only a direct Play Action on the banned content should permit it to Queue in Roon.

Hi Connor,

Happy to help improving the product. This afternoon i had roon on shuffle play for an hour. Nothing happened. But if you want me to support the bug fix just let me know.
