I have an Allo USbridge Sig player with a non-functioning ethernet port. I’ve tried flashing the USBridge specific ropiee version, but have been unsuccessful. The unit sits and flashes, but never becomes visible on the network. I’ve also tried to flash an old ropiee version, that also didn’t work, so I’ve concluded that the ethernet port itself must have died.
I’ve purchased a USB Realtek based wifi dongle, but am scratching my head as to how to configure the wifi SSID and password without working ethernet. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? (EG., moode creates is own wifi network that I can connect to for configuration… does Ropiee do this?)
Try a USB Ethernet adaptor. I am not sure Ropieee can enable the hotspot on WiFi dongles only the inbuilt WiFi on pis, but I could be wrong. USB adapter for Ethernet might just work.
I tried that first (3 different ones… TP-Link, Linksys & generic amazon cheapo)… no joy, I’m assuming its because Ropiee isn’t installing drivers for whatever USB ethernet adapter chipset was used. So the realtek based wifi dongle is kinda my last hope
So how do you know if it works? When RoPieee is not able to make an internet connection over a wire, it will setup a WiFi access point. It’s called ‘RoPieee-AP-XXXXX’ where ‘XXXX’ is a random string.
If Ropieee fails to work use the official Rpi image writer and select MoOde Audio and enter your WiFi settings into the preferences so it works immediately upon starting.
You can add the official Roon bridge software if they still don’t include it in the renderers section.
