HQP filter or settings for POP music.

I dunno… but it sounds quite OK on my system for my ears. Reminded me a bit of Vangelis. Beside the settings on a screenshot I use very minor convolution filter against B&K curve. No need to pool bass up, really - is more a matter of taste. I have another “bassy” curve, but for this busy recording it actually makes things worst.

I honestly don’t think so…

Unfortunately, there‘s no universal preset to fix anyone’s vaguely described sound problems from afar.
Maybe start identifying problematic frequency ranges from the tables referenced here and then set appropriate filters to mitigate - you gotta start somewhere!

Try the second track Phantom. The drums are very weak in the background and it’s all so mixed. BUT there’s probably nothing we can do about it. Mainly they make Hi res recordings but they don’t sound good because of the low DR.

Can you screen your HQP settings please? I try it

You set this on the back panel of your subwoofer!

I see. I changed the filter to “short-mp” it helps to accenuate the transients a little.

Once again I would not call it a bad mixing - it is rather a very ambitious recording. You have drums, winds, voices, synth, you name it. And yeah it is all fit into narrow DR so that average consumer can play it from the fridge, ironing board, washimg machine or toaster speakers or other musical IoT (internet of things) appliance. 21st century…

Alternative is the likes of some Deutsche Grammophon recordings with their 30+ DR’s. OK some are beutiful pieces but can easily blow you off the chair with orchestral full blast after “piano, piano”…

Here are the settings, I use HQP Embedded. And you will not see the convolution, but it does not matter, since the filters are custom to my room and listening position.

Thanks. Please and convolution how can i set up. I need some gear as microphone? I read somewhere that it’s more effective than PEQ.

I’m afraid, you’re tackling what seems to be more of a room acoustics problem from the wrong end by changing DAC and introducing HQ player.

You’d probably be better off spending around 100€ for a USB microphone, reading up on room acoustics and using REW software to measure your setup, optimize speaker positioning and room furnishing to then apply room correction…

So I guess you recommend me to study something about convolutions and measurements ? Buy a measuring microphone and modify the room with a carpet for example.

@Peter_Gregor - there are very many ways to deal with room correction. If this domain is new for you - I can recomend to check HouseCurve application. It is a very simple entry point with quite a lot of simple enough explanations and its developer is on this forum.

Next stop can be REW, and there are more apps when you are familiar with the concept.

Yes, calibrated mic would sooner or later be needed. But with housecurve you can start with iphone…

Thank you very much. I will definitely try HouseCurve. In this case I won’t need a microphone? Will I then transfer the data from that app to Roon convolution?

It may be more informative to check out the corresponding website

OK. Zatiaľ ďakujem pekne za pomoc.

Yes, this is the idea. HouseCurve will help you to measure and make corrections and you can import in Roon or in HQPlayer.

As @Marin_Weigel alluded you may want first to check the speaker positioning and listening spot, you can do using some simple guidelines like this for example, but take it with a pinch of salt as this is not a universal standard. https://www.cardas.com/system-setup

For 2 channel system the routine is really not that complex. Introducing the sub would make things more challeging, but equally rewarding if set correctly. I personally don’t use Sub in my set up. But I can see your speakers start at around 60Hz, so I assume you may benefit from Sub - with good “crossover” and phase…

Please the app is free? I don’t have an iphone but my brother does so he would lend me his cell phone when he comes over. From that app do I then upload that file to Roon in the convolution section?

You can download and install it for free, but you will need to buy “in app” to have additional features. I have bought it a while ago, the price is very reasonable considering all the investments in audio systems we make.

Alternatively, is there no similar app on android? I found some Room Acoustics Meter but I can’t export the necessary file there. The test in that app passed.

Well, REW for PC is free. And it is a very strong tool. But there you would really need a mic and eventhough it has a lot of help materials it is more complex to use at the beginning.

PS: I don’t know about Android if similar exist…

Thank you very much. I’ll try and see if I can get to a better sound.
