HQPlayer Embedded Discussion

Sure but at that point, why not install a full OS and avoid having to go through those hoops? In hindsight, I am not sure what benefits the image offers other than occasional kernel updates and some very small possible OS optimizations. But all of this is possible via other distro’s as well.

eg. I just installed the 5.6.3 update - took seconds …

wget https://signalyst.com/bins/hqplayerd/jammy/hqplayerd_5.6.3-20intel_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i hqplayerd_5.6.3-20intel_amd64.deb
sudo systemctl restart hqplayerd.service

I’m a self-diagnosed ex-sysadmin masochist? :stuck_out_tongue:

It is not really needed for the playback. The image is stripped down to bare minimum, and such tools just bloat it unnecessarily. HQPlayer OS is firmware for upsampler/streamer device. Usually such devices don’t have any such monitoring tools (look for example at dCS ones).

Hi! I fixed it by migrating my motherboard into a more optimized case and a new Noctua NH-L12Sx77! It was my first ITX fully built PC, and it was very satisfying to see it performed, plus the SUGO 16 case is a real beauty!
I learned more about airflow efficiency, and this update will give a longer life to my motherboard.

Hi @jussi_laako, the inevitable question - what does “Major update of HQPlayer OS” in the new Embedded 5.7.0 release mean? New kernel/OS branch?

Yes, kernel update from 6.1 to 6.6, and pretty much every single other component got updated too. For example the UPnP stack. Also Raspberry Pi 5 is now finally supported. So far I decided to keep two separate builds for RPi4 and RPi5, but may merge these in future.

The new Pi5 build is not working for me. I did a restore of my settings like always but my matrix profiles are not there, my library does not work, nor will it play from roon for more then 2 seeconds (it just shuts down.)

@IgorSki I’ve updated a bit!

Now, it seems is working, this was the best I could do with my budget, I’m quite happy with thermals. The GPU is it doing its best?

Many thanks for your inspiration and guidance! Sinc-MGa at 512DSDx48!!

And my CPU is chilling

Which build is that? The HQPlayer OS? Where is the settings backup coming from?

What kind of cooling do you have installed?

The backup / restore built in to HQPlayer OS.
For cooling:

HQPlayer Embedded 5.7.0 Intel
Ndivia 4060 ti 8gb
Holo Spring KTE L3 with DAC correction enabled, Matrix Filter Enabled
Sinc L with ASDM7ECv3 DSD256 x48
CPU sleeping cold

GPU fans super quiet at 35%!

Very Nice @Moy ! Congrats. Amazing set up in your formfactor. Now with GPU you may explore some cool stuff like EXT3 or XLA filters with 192/24 sources.

What about Light/Super 512+fs modulators? Can it do @512?

Totally Game changer!

Can do DSD512 x 48 with DAC correction using light version.

Without DAC correction can do Super +fs

Where is the library located? So the backup is from some older RPi4 system?

Shutdown during playback would indicate towards overheating.

Dilemma!

Would Super 512+fs be beating Light+DAC Correction or other way around? I bet the answer is “it depends”

I can’t say I constantly flip through settings, but I do experiment. Clearly different sources have their own sweetspots for playback + my perseption at the given moment certainly…

Well, I’ve updated to HQP 5.7.0, but somehow my license key doesn’t work. (My name doesn’t show up in the About tab.)
Does anyone have an idea what’s wrong?

Self-resolved.
It froze once, so I manually rebooted the OS, and now it’s working.

I moved my key from a weaker machine with 5.3 ubuntu to HQPlayer image AVX2 5.7 and it does not recognize my key. Hard boot did nor help. @jussi_laako please help

I had the same problem but going from HQplayer OS to Ubuntu. The difference was the WiFi adaptor. HQPOS doesn’t recognize the WiFi hardware but Ubuntu does of course. I had to disable it in bios and it worked.
If it is because you have a WiFi adaptor installed, used or not, going the other direction might be more problematic, as your current fingerprint is dependent on seeing it. But I am speculating a bit …
