HQPlayer NAA set-up?

(deleted, posted on the wrong thread)

Hi
short question does the NAA image for RAspberry4 on the Signalyst download page work with a RPI3b?
longer version of question
I am trying to get NAA working with my desktop HQplayer. I have a RPI3b which works as NAA with RopieeeXL . with IAN Canada fifopi etc. plus double 9038 DAC . With RopieeXL however you have to choose for a specific DAC with IAN CAnada stuff not on the list. So I would prefer to use directly the NAA from HQPlayer. I Etcher the unzipped image on a usb memory stick and start up the raspberry 3b with it. But no luck so far. What beginner mistake am I making??

thanks for your helpā€¦

Likely it wonā€™t work, it is built as RPi4 only.

RPi3 hardware design has cut too many corners for proper NAA use, especially on itā€™s ethernet/USB implementation. RPi4 is much better in this respect. Do you have a specific reason to use RPi3 instead of RPi4?

Although the RPi image may work from USB memory stick, it is designed to be written on microSD card for booting from the microSD slot on RPi.

Ok I will try with a micro sd! And I found that it is hard to get a RPI4 these daysā€¦ But will try to get one.
Thank you very much for your fast response! Just as fast and usefull as your softwareā€¦

My understanding is that RPI4 is only capable of PCM at 768k. Iā€™m curious to know what is the bottleneck there and why it canā€™t reach 1.5M?

Is upgrading it a possibility vs replacing it with something like Up Board?

It can do DSD1024. Hereā€™s Holo Red running NAA OS and playing DSD1024 to Spring 2 just fine (right now).

I canā€™t do DSD1024 via my RPI4, either. But great to know itā€™s possible. I assume itā€™s due to my DAC (Musician Pegasus) which enigmatically states ā€œDSD1024, PCM1536 Supports On USB & I2S Input (the audio source needs to be compatible with the native interface)ā€.

Thought this bit from the HQP log was interesting- after NAA connection the highest rates arenā€™t detected.

Thatā€™s awesome to see!

Have you done any measuring or critical listening with the Holo Red? How does it compare to other NAA endpoints?

Which OS are you running there? My NAA OS image or something else?

Not much listening yet, Iā€™ve been more on overall testing phase and too busy working on my HQPlayer code to do listening tests through the Holo. I first need to decide where itā€™s final place will be in my systems. But before I more permanently hook it up somewhere, I wanted to test it in different scenarios.

Very solidly built device. USB side works as expected up to DSD1024 (with NAA OS). And if you need I2S source (tested up to DSD512), it will work fine too and itā€™s clock performance in such use is excellent.

And as a positive side, no need to worry about software updates since it works with my NAA OS image as well.

Yes itā€™s your Pi4 NAA image v4.3.1

OK, seems like it is really limited to 705.7/768k and DSD512 over USB. Maybe there are multiple firmware versions like for example Denafrips has had.

What device is limited?

Musician Pegasus, according to networkaudiod logs (above).

For Pegasus :

FIRMWARE LOG

V3.12.0 (Current latest version)

  • Release Date: 29th Nov 2021

  • Compatible with macOS / winOS / Linux

  • Improved low level STM MCU32 USB handshake with host

  • Supports PCM1536 / DSD1024

Iā€™ve upgraded the firmware and Iā€™m now able to connect at 1.5M PCM and DSD1024, albeit with dropouts from an M1 Pro MBP. But thatā€™s a problem for tomorrow.

Thanks all for the support to get this working!

I notice that my Roon slider that shows time elapsed on a song stutters constantly, sometimes skipping 2 or 3 seconds and other times advances in less than a second. Everything sounds fine but should I be concerned? This is Mac Mini M1 to NAA into T+A DAC200 at ASDM7ECv2, 48/DSD256.

Never looked at that.
Now that I pay attention my slider it is not sliding or having a constant speed. Like dropped frames, 6 dropped frames, 6 dropped frames, 12 dropped frames and so onā€¦ sound always ok, M1 Mini to Zen Stream NAA Zen Dac same ASDM7ECv2, DSD256x48

I reported this to @support a long time ago including showing a video

Seems like nothing was done.

Can you guys individually report it too
