I see that NAA511 has just been released (I assume for the correction stated above), the update for Bookworm will also benefit from this?
Similarly, HQP Embedded 5.90 which has been released for the new NAA, the update for Desktop will also follow?

Yes, NAA 5.1.1 includes some fixes to the ALSA backend. And better syncing when you use combo interface. Same will be included in upcoming Embedded 5.9.1. If you use Embedded with NAA output, this NAA update is enough. There are also some other fixes in Embedded, when I get the builds done over the weekend.

At the moment, macOS / Windows NAA don’t need any updates, since all the changes are in the ALSA backend.

What is the issue with NAA 5.1.1? It should work correctly with Embedded 5.9.0. Which networkaudiod build are you using?

I am running HQPlayer Embedded 5.8.1. Due to a hardware problem with my NAA (Up computer), I am going to purchase a new RPi to build a new NAA. You recently told me that I better buy a RPi4 than a RPi5.

This week I could loan a RPi5 for an afternoon so I could try it with my DAC (ADI-2 DAC v2 with AKM 4493 chip). So I put NAA 5.1 in the microSD and updated HQPlayer Embedded to 5.9.

It didn’t work: No sound at all and the ADI-2 display showed only presence of high frequencies (statically). Then I downgraded to 5.8.1 and it worked fine again.

I gave no importance because I was not going to keep the RPi, but I am reading the thread and I rememberd this issue. I am sorry but I can not give you more specific details. Just for your information.

Until I get the new RPi4, I am using Roon direct to ADI-2 DAC.

OK, I see the issue is related to DoP… Not so many DACs that would require DoP on Linux.

@jussi_laako My dac is a M2Tech Young DSD MKII that is DoP only, therefore on Windows, macOS and Linux … and it doesn’t work anymore too (HQPe 5.9.0 / NAA 5.1.1 OS on rpi4)

I’m sorry. There was a misunderstanding with the file I used.
I tried NAA5.1.1 again, and it played back without any issues.

Have we discussed this before? Is it because the USB interface is inherently so, or is it because just driver support is missing? If the latter, then it could be fixed.

There are now NAA OS 5.1.2 images that fix the DoP regression, please try it out and let me know. I’m making this a slow release, so I will announce it only once I have some more feedback about any possibly remaining issues.

I’m broken now. It just says “Roon Lost Control of the Audio Device”.

It sees the DAC via NAA, get the right signal path in Roon, but it never starts advancing, no sound.

If you are using DoP, previous HQPlayer version with latest NAA should work. I hope I have 5.9.1 builds of Embedded done some time tommorrow (HQPlayer OS can take some 12 hours to build). So please keep eye on the download folders. I won’t announce these before there is some comfirmation that remaining issues have been solved.

This has been very complex thing with all the DoP input and combo output features. Hopefully the NAA side will be more stable for some time now.

I read the previous posts too quickly, I thought your fix was in NAA image which is why I upgraded.

ok, will look at folders tomorrow. Happy I don’t have to climb behind my console to get at the Pi and load another image. Upgrading the deb image is a lot easier. Thanks. I’ll report back tomorrow.

Yeah, NAA 5.1.2 has some DoP output fixes. No other changes.

Then HQPlayer has more fixes coming for 5.9.1, including DoP related ones. At NAA side, 5.1.1 vs 5.1.2 matters only for DoP outputs.

HQPlayer itself has more fixes when it comes to handling DoP outputs through ALSA and NAA backends on 5.9.1. (plus bunch of other fixes)

Unfortunately it doesn’t work. It starts playing for few seconds (I can see the progress bar but no sound) then it reverts to stop.

Which HQPlayer version are you using? Embedded 5.9.0 doesn’t work with DoP output, but I’m in process of making 5.9.1 release that fixes it.
