HQPlayer NAA thread

For NUCs it depends on the particular model and it is hard to estimate since they are based on laptop CPU models and I don’t do as much testing with laptop CPUs.

But overall, if you don’t have a specific reason to have a small sized computer, you can many times get more powerful computer for the same price in regular desktop formfactor.

Have you heard of WinPE used for NAA?

I read on a forum someone has it worked nicely with NAA, for a DAC that needs ASIO driver for highest DSD rate

Diskspace around 500mb and under 10 processes and services running

I believe it’s free to use

Many thanks for your advice, because space it’s really a limitation for my setup, I dig looking at a NUC or similar type PC. I saw a used NUC i5 cpu model with 16GB RAM for around $200 usd, don’t know if it’s sufficient or equivalent to a Mac M1.

Again many thanks as always for your support

That sounds really good! In any case I understand it’s possible to use my Mac HQPLAYER license on a PC to test it. It’s seems as a best chance to listen the full DSD256 on my DAC-60 Accuphase .

Don’t put HQPlayer on the NUC intel n37001.6 GHz.

You only need to run lightweight NAA on it.

https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/windows/networkaudiod-423.zip

First install your ASIO driver and reboot. Then open the file in this zip file which will start NAA running on Windows.

Then lastly open HQPlayer on your exisiting Mac Mini M1 machine.

Not knowing the exact CPU model, I would say Mac Mini M1 is both quieter and safer choice for doing DSD256. Especially if you are using a NAA.

Many thanks! That save me a lot more! Can get a Nuc alike with an cheaper intel processor on windows 10 for around $50 usd. :tada::headphones:

My dad always told me “it costs money to be cheap.”

The nuc may be less expensive and I”ve consistently been becoming less and less of an Apple guy (i cant believe I’m suggesting this ) but given your space constraints, a Mac mini may the way to go.

I’m pretty sure @Moy already has a Mac Mini M1 running HQP ?

Another Mac Mini just for NAA is a bit overkill

Check please! Table one. :grimacing: I got my reading and posts all garbled.

Agreed, Mac mini is overkill for a NAA. I think a nuc is as well.

Need more :coffee:.

Testing on windows 11 new install got this errors. Any idea?

First image probably needs C++ runtime
Other 2 most likely need multi-installer Visual C++

Check google a google search and I’d probably get them from a answers(dot)microsoft(dot)com source.

I’ve been meaning to comment. I love the meters! Growing up I used to love playing tapes on my dads jvc deck and watching the meters.

Gotta love search engines… here’s the deck!

Love the meters too! And the number digital display showing 11.2 mhz

Soo grateful :smiling_face_with_tear: finally my dream realized of this:

Having my HQPlayer set up with my DAC-60 Accuphase with DSD256, mixing Roon on Mac Mini and NAA on windows with Accuphase ASIO drivers.
The timbre and music :musical_score: separation is so vivid and warm, I can appreciate more layers of sound.

Got on background also on balanced connection ifi zen streamer with DSD256 on ifi NEO, they are connected on a Roon set up unfolding MQA. Ifi streamer is no longer as NAA to don’t conflict with HQPlayer. Is good to switch and also experiment :microscope: other filters.

So many thanks @dabassgoesboomboom @jussi_laako @IgorSki any everyone that helped me on my Hifi journey

BTW the HQPlayer app is amazing!! No need to open my computer for changing filters!!!

Do you plan to try WinPE? (see my post yesterday about it)

Many thanks but setting up windows NAA and fixing a configuration for adding it to startup apps is my final set up :joy:.

Another use case to share, and been in use by many, sorry if I stating the obvious…

Win desktop experience enhanced by NAA.

  • My laptop (home PC) being 6+ year old surprisingly can still show some juice and make 7ECv2@DSD256 under Linux with HQ Desktop. But no way DSD512…
  • Recently I have bought a peculiar FIIO device, a KA3 dongle that can do DSD512 in Native !
  • hm…

Making a full use of my recently built HQP server to create top of the top DSD512 and routing a final result through just installed Win NAA to my little KA3 via WiFi (5GHz) ! Hehe

Path: Win Roon Remote to ROON ROCK server to HQP server and back to the same Win machine, but this time to NAA to WIN ASIO and KA3 dongle.

Just in case you wondered how to get your WiFi busy… And having DSD512 on my rather old Win set-up and local CPU is just at 8%, can do all my “office” stuff like a pro.

@dabassgoesboomboom , yes, I know, I know, I now move my PEQ settings from ROON DSP to HQP Matrix. Need to find them PEQ files…

If you connect your KA3 direct to your HQP server and select ALSA output, can you do DSD512? Just to quickly test Linux support with DSD512

A Linux NAA is better than Windows, if possible!

(Edit: I’m assuming you use Embedded?)

DietPi is easy to setup , and supports easy WiFi setup and NAA

NAA OS can also be configured for WiFi but I haven’t tried that yet
