Hello,
router is Modell: FRITZ!Box 6690 Cable.
I tried almost everything (automatic or manual configuration) as described in the instructions. I also tried out some hints I found in the community, but everything without success.
you need to open TCP port 55000 for only your Roon server (NUC)'s IP Address.
BUT - it wonāt work if your Vodafone connection has GNAT (that is, the external address of your router is not a public ipv4 address). In that case (look at the instructions in the Multiple NAT section)
=> āIf the double NAT is caused by your ISP, you will need to contact them.ā
Search for Vodafone Germany in the forum and you will find lots of info.
Originally the problem was DS Lite but I was under the impression that this works now with current ARC, but maybe not.
Easiest solution is to call VF support and ask them to give you a real IPv4 address that can be port forwarded, instead of DS Lite. This may not be possible for all customers but it usually seems to be no issue
(Their German word for it is āPort Weiterleitungā. Support people should know what to do with this)
Thank you for your help.
To be honest, I really donāt understand this stuff. Iām neither a computer-specialist nor a network-crack, but just a music lover.
If this thing is so complicated I canāt use ARC.
Why canāt the developers create a solution for the ānormalā-ROON-user without knowing all this networking-stuff?
Thank you for your help.
I studied all the posts in the Vodafone forum, but couldnāt get it to work.
Unfortunately VF will give IP4 only to business-users.
So, because Iām not network-specialist but just a āmusic loverā I have to admit that I donāt understand much of this stuff.
I think I have to say āGoodbyeā to ARC.
This was not true at least last year. I opened a new small business account (which costs nearly the same and you need no business for it) and after I did they told me that it would not have been necessary and they could have given me an IPv4 in my old consumer account if I had just asked for it.
It may differ now and like I said may not be possible for everyone (maybe depending on region, DSL vs Cable, or other things)
unfortunately, the huge number of internet providers offer many different services & routers, and many of them even provide minimal functionality, making such simple configurations difficult for the users.
In your case it might be easily solved by a phonecall to VF tech support. You might have to insist though ā¦
From what I see, your settings are correct, and should work.
Now, I donāt know about Vodafone DS-LITE, but if you connect your phone to a WiFi (not in your house), you should be able to connect (and by doing so verify if that is the problem with the t-mobile connection or not)
I had a thing initially where the Roon ARC settings also said Ready (and I had a proper IPv4) but it didnāt work with the Vodafone home internet from my phone because all ports were blocked when accessed from the outside through the Vodafone cell network. It worked when the phone was in the Telekom cell network.
This was caused by a misconfiguration either in the Vodafone cell network or in Vodafoneās cheap router that I was using at the time. It went away as soon as I switched to a private Fritzbox.
Point being, there seem to be some kinds of port blocks that the Roon settings apparently canāt recognize and say Ready anyway.
I recommend that @Rudiger_Pfaender installs a port scanner app on the phone (there are many in the app stores). Then, with the phone connected to the cell network, tell the app to access the external IP address on the port number that ARC is trying to use. The app should report the port as āopenā.
That doesnāt ā¦ compute.
If the IPv4 is public (ie being accessible from the Roonlabs servers), it should also be accessible from everyone else.
What Vodafone mobile might have done (and the Greek Cosmote - partly owned by DeutcheTelecom - does as well in some connections) is add network filtering like this:
Well you would think so but I spent hours on VF support trying to explain to them how the internet works. Fact is they were filtering or blocking or whatever based on the network of origin. ARC worked from the office LAN or if I put my colleagueās Telekom SIM into my phone, but not if my phone used the VF SIM, and in this case a port scanner app on my phone showed the port as blocked.
All the while, the Roon settings said Ready.
I never found out what the problem really was because by the time I made it finally to 3rd level support and a person who understood what I was saying, I was fed up with the VF router for other reasons and had ordered a Fritzbox. And as soon as that was connected, the port issue disappeared.
Point being, just because Roon says Ready doesnāt mean that it necessarily really is.
I tested connection from office-WLANā¦. No connection! I canāt connect to ROON outside my home-WLAN. HOME-connection works fine.
So obviously itās not a problem with Telekom t-mobile.
