Imac system regularly crashes Roon

Hi Connor,

I installed Roon Server. It hasn’t crashed, but stopped playback unexpectedly acouple of times. One zone seems to work ok.

I purchased the Nucleus Plus device, so hopefully that fixes the whole ball of wax. Hopefully, the Nucleus install goes smooth as did Roon Server.

Hi @connor

I dropped a new set of logs from my use of Roon Server. No crashes, but I’m getting a lot of stoppages. It’s only when I use Roon that the playback gets hung up. No issues with the Naim native software, or my Aurender gear.

In any case, I hope the Nucleus Plus will run clean since it takes the imac out of the loop. My mesh wifi runs download speeds of over 300 mbps, and 20mbps upload, which is all that my service provider offers in my package.

Same stoppages with ethernet connected Bryston BDP-2 and wireless wifi connected Naim.

I’m thinking the Nucleus Plus will solve whatever demons I have going on with the imac. I moved everything to a Synology DS220+ with two gb of RAM. Roon Server and library was installed on the NAS, and it works flawlessly. I’ve had one Bryston BDP-2 endpoint running for over 24 hours. The Nucleus Plus will give me a little more horsepower for DSP over the NAS, which is only running things at 16/44.1.

Something in the imac is causing the stoppages.

I’ve always used a NUC/Rock core, it’s a few years old now, and I wanted to upgrade. I switched to a 2023 M2 Mac Mini and the experience was, well, similar to yours - I’m back with my NUC :slightly_smiling_face:

I pulled the Roon program off of the imac, and swapped it to an Synology NAS DS220+. Works pretty well, but I’m limited due to the Synology’s processor. I have a Nucleus Plus showing up within the next day or so. That should solve the problem.

Installation of a Nucleus Plus resolved all of my problems. I highly recommend this component for trouble free operation.

Instructions on how to add an internal storage SSD and add music were readily available. I‘m able to run multiple endpoints at once, and the music sounds great. :sunglasses:
