Describe the issue

I use NUC as roon optimised server. I connect it to perfectly fine with the roon app on my mobile. But I can no longer connect to it on my laptop. I cannot access via microsoft roon app on laptop or access the roon ROCK data site on my laptop where I upload songs. So i have lost access to my song bank and being able to edit or play tracks via the microsoft app on laptop. It has previously worked with and without my nornvpn being on. I have enabled roon on windows defender. I recently had norton but that ended last month. I have no current protection that could be blocking. Yesterday, it worked ok in the morning but when I logged back on in the afternoon and since nothing. On the microsoft app it only gives the option to connect to pc server then where I try it say I am already connected and to hit go back which then puts me in a time loop. Any help as it costing me a lot of time trawling thought the endless roon help section without success. Many thanks, Neil.

Describe your network setup

NUC server cabled to internet router from sky. Connect to it via wifi using mobile no issues so I know server is working. Cannot connect anymore using HP Spectre laptop. Been fine for 3 or 4 years until now.

Hi @njpope1968 ,

Welcome to the forum!

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

If this doesn’t help, you can then try to perform a Roon UI reinstall on the Windows PC to see if it helps. To do so, please see below:

  • Create a Backup of your current database (if possible)
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location (on Windows under %localappdata% folder, do not do this ROCK database location)
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Connect to existing ROCK server

Let us know if this helps!
