Inability to run Roon app on Mac OS 10.13.6 (ref#GPFAW5)

What type of connection issue?

· Something else

· None of the above

· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

I have a Mac running OS 10.13.6, all my music is on. The computer is too old to upgrade the OS. Apparently the Roon app Requires OS 10.15 or higher, is there a way around this?

Describe your network setup

The router is a Asus GT-AC5300, with Asus RT-AX92U range extenders

To run Roon you should have a computer platform that at least meets the minimum requirements. And it should have a wired connection to the router. Do you have something besides the older Mac you mentioned that would meet the requirements? Laptop or desktop?

I see you have the same router I have. Works very well in our home.

Welcome to the community.

You can’t make Roon run on an OS it can’t run on, but depending on the exact model it may be possible to install a later macOS with this:

It may be fine if the hardware is fast enough, depending on the model. Or maybe you have another option to install it on like @Mike_LC said.

@brianjjj - I’ve moved your question from the Support category of the forum to the Roon Software Discussion category, since it is not a question that the support team will deal with. You’re getting suggestions from community members here.

FWIW, I use a macpro5,1 (2010 macpro cheesegrater tower, which is amazing) with OCLP v1.5 and Monterey and it works great. This is where I curate my library, make sure everything is as I want it, and sync with my NUC13i7 ROCK core.

If you don’t want to use Legacy Patcher, you could leave music on your older Mac to serve as network attached storage (NAS) for the new Roon machine.

You set it up in Sharing preferences and leave it running on your local network.

I tried that before I did the OCLP thing… I would curate the library on the macpro5,1 and upload to the NUC where I run ROCK. But the issue I found was that Roon doesn’t always get things right the first time - especially album groupings - and tweaking how Roon incorporated the new music I added via a separate device (eg my iPad) became a royal PITA. So I bit the bullet and did the OCLP/Monterey thing and it’s been working great for a few years now.

I like that Monterey is actually not supported anymore so I don’t run the risk of installing an update that breaks OCLP.
