Describe the issue

Hello dear Roon Team,

I have a question for you.
As you know, Microsoft is discontinuing support for Windows 10.
Since my PC does not support the TPM requirements for Windows 11, I have decided to use Linux as my operating system.
I plan to install Linux Mint or Zorin.

I looked around and saw that unfortunately there is no Roon Remote for Linux.
Are there any plans to make this possible in the near future?

Finally, I wanted to ask you if there is anything that would allow me to use Roon on Linux.
I have already installed a Roon server and it works with my iPad.
But since I haven't installed Linux yet, I can't test whether it would work with that.
I've seen a few things like Wine or Remmina, but I haven't looked into them in depth yet.
Can you perhaps recommend something that is compatible with Linux as a Roon Remote?

Kind regards from Germany,

Greg.

Describe your network setup

Fritzbox 7490 as router,Roon Server installed on Dietpi with a disgard PC.

You might search in tinkering:
Found this, YMMV:

There is also a new linux package called WinBoat that you might look into?
Haven’t tried it yet, I am also looking at Linux distros and testing them out. (CachyOS, Zorin, LMDE, Omarchy, Arch the hard way, etc, etc,)
If I get to the Roon testing phase I will let you know what I have found.

But I am sure that someone will chime in with their experiences soon.

Hello @Deleeh

Short answer: Roon doesn’t ship an official native Roon Remote for Linux at the moment, but you do have several workable options depending on how comfortable you are with each path. Below are three practical routes you can try, with brief pros/cons and links.

  1. Install Windows 11 (workaround)
  • If you still prefer using the official Roon Remote for Windows, there are well-documented guides showing how to bypass the TPM/CPU checks so you can install Windows 11 on older hardware. Be aware this is a workaround and has potential security / support implications, so read carefully before proceeding. Tom’s Hardware
  1. Use the community-built native Linux Remote
  • The Roon community has created a native Linux GUI Remote (community project). Many users report good results — it’s a solid option if you want a native experience on Linux without running Windows. Follow the community thread for downloads, instructions and support from the project authors. Roon Labs Community
  1. Run the Windows Remote under Wine, or use a remote-desktop client
  • Some users run the official Windows Remote with Wine on Linux — this can work but isn’t guaranteed and may require tweaking. Alternatively, run the Remote on a small Windows VM or Windows machine and use an RDP client (Remmina, etc.) from your Linux desktop to control it. Wine’s project page and resources are a good starting point. WineHQ

Hope that helps.

I would use the old to pc to run Roonserver under Linux using Diet Pi for PC as the OS. And then get a new PC to run Windows and the Roon client software, aka Roon.

There are many reasons for my suggestions. Id be happy to clarify if you have any questions.

Hi @Deleeh,

Threads in the Support category have auto-close timers and will expire after a Solution has been marked or the OP stops responding.

If you want to cast a wide net for community suggestions on this issue, my advice would be to create a post in the Roon Software Discussion. Roon users have all sorts of crafty solutions for a Linux-based GUI, and the thread will remain open for passersby to comment if you post outside this category.

Thank you!
