Describe the issue
Streaming issues - freezes on Cocktail X45 Streaming with ROON towards my X45 is randomly interrupted. Files are presented to the device without any issue (artwork and file info is presented on the LED display, even the timer is running....) but no sound. It is not related to particular files or file formats since happening ok and ko for the same files, randomly again.... I have NO issues what so ever streaming ROON to other devices in my home (SONOS devices, my MacBook, etc....) , so it must be related to the X45 Can you please confirm the X45 is still RoonReady as commercialised when I bought it a couple of years ago. Are you aware of any compatibility issues Roon / X45 ..... Thanks in advance for your help, I am desparate that this magnificent X45 is not performing according to specs.... Thanks and best regards,
Describe your network setup
ROON on SYNOLOGY NAS 918+ , core on flash disk , flawless very fast ethernet.
Are you able to share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Audio to confirm you’ve connected via RoonReady with your X45?
Reboot your X45, and see if shows up under Roon Settings>Audio properly
Stop Roon Server from running and reboot your server machine
If your issues still persist, share the specific track name the next time you experience an issue. Thank you!

Hello, thanks for reaching out, Benjamin.
I have done that on plenty occasions before.
Did reinstall the firmware as well a couple of times.
It is a completely random (well that’s my best guess) phenomenon , so not related to any particular track or disc …
I could just initiate an audio file A in Roon… playing perfectly well, then ask for another one B while A is playing… working perfectly well as well… ask A again… see the title, artwork etc in the LCD… but no sound… seems like hanging within the Cocktail…
Rebooting the X45 seems to bring resolution once in a while… but same phenomenon coming back again and again… very frustrating. Seems like the buffer in the X45 is then wrongly initialised or messed up…
As said, I have got many other playback devices (many Sonos’s all kinds, some of them in groups etc… MacBooks, etc etc… never had that issue with them)
My X45 is like new (even while I bought it 8 yrs ago… the plastic still on the LCD haha, …
Many thanks for any advise / hint, especially now that I heard that CocktailAudio apparently being bankrupt meanwhile…
Enjoy the music !!!

Something else and interesting I found out…
When connecting from Roon to the X45 via the traditional way (very fast high quality Ethernet LAN), these intermittent issues are obvious and frequent… BUT… when connecting via Airplay… there seems to be no issue at all…
If you could please take note the next time it occurs, and share the date, time and name of track that had played, this will help our team when reviewing a diagnostic report from your Roon Server.
Thank you!

Hello there,
Is there someone whom can analyse my Roon logfile for the example issue i gave in my previous post ? How would you like me to provide you the logfile ?
Many thanks and best regards,
Paul
Thanks for the update! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find any specific errors in relation to the timestamps you’ve provided above.
Are you able to use the X45 with a different media player (completely outside of Roon) without issue?
It may be worth getting in touch with CocktailAudio directly if you haven’t yet. Thank you

Hi Benjamin, thanks for your feedback and help, much appreciated
I guess i am stuck with options…. Cocktailaudio went bankrupt recently.
Their main importer and service center in the Benelux is no longer supporting either, they are not aware of any issues with Roon, but are no longer able to service the Cocktail either due to missing spare parts….
That said, the X45 works perfect with Airplay, out of Roon.
I will retry other media player software with the X45 to find out if the LAN connectivity is working flawless with them
Anyway seems like a buffering issue at this moment…. not sure we will get anywhere beyond that one day
Ah, well that’s no good! Stuck between a rock and a hard place as they say. Since some time has passed, I wanted to check in and see if you were able to test out the X45 with other software to see how things perform?
Let us know, thank you!

Thank you for your followup, Benjamin.
I have been streaming for 2 days from Audirvana to the X45 without a single issue…
That said, note that out of Roon , i am streaming without the problematic behaviour as well when connected to the X45 in Airplay modus… the issue is there when streaming from Roon via the direct X45 connection.
I am due to receive a new Eversolo A8 streamer today , and will hook it up in Roon tomorrow, we might be able to come to more precise conclusions (whether Roon is having an issue, or whether the X45 itself is an issue in Ethernet mode with Roon.
Will definetely be back with further findings… thanks for your support !!
Have you by any chance been able to confirm if their issue also happens with the A8?

Hello again, sorry, it took a while before I found time to check it out.
My brand new Eversolo A8 is streaming great , with and without Roon… no phenomenon as with the X45.
What I did today then is, within Roon, to group both the cocktail X45 and the A8 into a device group.
Then streaming test… and guess what… they play sync , but the X45 is showing the issue when I change songs randomly again (showing the artwork, song name, play progress timer… but NO sound) while the Eversolo A8 is reproducing them ok
So I can confirm that my X45 unit is having an issue (with ROON) while playing it via the internal streaming (LAN), not when playing via Airpay.
So that is clear.
Now while the A8 is a beautiful piece of equipment, with a really nice UI… it seems to have some kind of ‘limitation’ in the gain … in other words I need to set the volume wide open until 80% of the knob (-20db while it handles -100db until 0db) to obtain a ‘normal volume’… this has been reported by other users in the Eversolo forums… but has not been ‘confirmed’ as an issue apparently… strange…
Thanks for the follow-up @Ervoering! I’m glad to hear you’re not having any issues with your A8!
In regard to the X45, we have a ticket in with our Partners team who will investigate the device and attempt to reproduce the issue in-house. This may take some time, so if the thread closes before we hear back from them, please know we’ll re-open the thread once more information is shared our way. We very much appreciate your patience in the meantime!
Have you tested out using Volume leveling within MUSE in Roon? Here’s more info that may help:
Happy listening!

Yup, Volume Leveling is off in Roon
But that said, I am not the only one suffering from this ‘volume’ phenomenon
Here is the support link for people with Roon and a A8 interested in following up the thread.
I am fearing yes/no games and long-term or no resolution… returning my unit as well (for audio sound quality disappointment… too ‘clinical’ or ‘analytic’ for me… sound projection is not coherent in my eyes, but that is probably a very subjective opinion)…;
Have you tested out using the +10dB analog gain setting, which can amplify the output signal? A few other options to consider testing:
Variable Mode: Utilizes the DMP-A8’s internal preamplifier, allowing you to adjust the volume directly on the device.
Volume Passthrough Mode: By enabling this mode, the DMP-A8 outputs a fixed signal, effectively bypassing its internal volume control. This setup is ideal if you prefer to manage volume adjustments through an external amplifier or preamp.
For better detailed instructions on configuring these settings, please refer to the Eversolo DMP-A8 User Manual.
Hi all, just want to let you know I experience similar behaviour (no sound on X45, but indicator show it is playing). I noticed the relatively fast (within seconds) and repeatedly skipping of songs often trigger the loss of sound. Pausing that (silent) song followed by selecting a different audio zone, play a song for a few seconds, pause that, switch the audiozone to X45 again and continue to play the paused song brings back the sound again. I hope this helps identifying the problem.
