Describe the issue

I have roon running on a mac mini, endpoint is a NAD M33 first time hookup, no problem, then after a year roon couldnt find the M33, then a few months later it found it, all is well. A few days ago, Roon lost he M33. I've restarted the mac, and reinstallaed ROON, still can't find the M33. Help please, thanks

Describe your network setup

All wired, everything from a apple router, within a foot of each other

Hey @mbbair11,

Thanks for writing in and welcome to the community! A few immediate tests you can check:

  1. Local network - can you confirm that all your Roon devices are functioning on the same local subnet within your network? You can check this by accessing the webUI of your router settings, and view your devices list.

  2. How is the M33 connected to your Mac? Testing different cables and ports is always a good thing to do!

  3. Reproduce the issue, and then if you could, please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

Hi, everything is on the same subnet, swapped ports to one I know is active, uploaded server log named mbbair11---------.zip Thanks much for your help.

[Moderator edit: email reference in file name redacted, Roon staff will still be able to view.]

Any status on this

Hi @mbbair11,
Thanks for providing the logs to us. Most of the logs only cover a few minutes or a few hours. Have you been experiencing crashes of your server? Also I saw no mention of the NAD M33 in your logs. Does restarting the M33 make it show up in Roon? Is there any pattern to when you see the M33?

Some things you can try are making sure the firmware on the NAD is up to date and checking if the M33 appears in your router settings when you don’t see it in Roon. Please let us know whether any of this helps.

The M33 has show up twice, when I first got it, worked fine for at least a year. Then Roon lost it, found it again in a couple of weeks. Worked for a week or so and lost it again. I can’t point to anything unusual that would cause it. Restarted the M33, firmware is up to date. The M33 is on my network. Interesting I did try to run Roon through the BluOS app and it worked, found the M33 played as expected. But it doesn’t work if I use the Mac Mini screen. Not sure what thats all about. Anyway I’m installing a Nucleus and giving up on the Mini. Thanks

Thanks for the update @mbbair11 - curious to note the issue only occurs when using it in pair with your Mac.

Have you explored your Mac firewall at all? What happens if you temporarily disable it, and reboot Roon. Does it show up properly?

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Well, didn’t need to, Roon found the M33 using the Mac screen. So seems like running Roon using the BluOS app woke something up. Strange. Still going to move to a Roon Nucleus and stop using the Mac, too unpredictable. Thanks very much for your help, much appreciated.

Well, now things are getting really interesting. All is up and working, Roon has found the M33, although it id’s as “NAD” which is different from before, which was M33-1531, when I bring up my 8 tidal playlists and pick one of the 8, Roon shuts down, doesn’t matter if I’m using the Mac interface or the BluOS app. Can you tell me how to wipe everyting and start over?

Hey @mbbair11,

Here are the steps to refresh your Roon Server database:

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Hope this helps! :+1:
