Intermittent disruption when playing Melody FM live radio (ref#U4HN86)

Hi @chow_min_tan,

Thank you for sharing a timestamp - please open Roon on the affected device for a few minutes so the diagnostic report will automatically upload to our servers. We’ll inspect the relevant error and report back.

hi connor,
i have opened my roon since 7.18pm (GMT+8) and will try to hit the play button a few times to see if it works. it worked after trying for about 10 mins. hope you can received the report and find the cause. the tie stamp is 11th Feb 2025. will let it run as long as i can.

cheers

Thank you @chow_min_tan! The upload was successful and we’ve captured the event in diagnostics.

Here’s what we can ascertain:

  • RoonServer itself is occasionally crashing, leaving only the GUI open (the Roon window itself). We’ll need to ascertain why the background server is restarting.
  • Sample loss is occurring within the network rather than with the upstream connection to Melody FM. Endpoints like iOS speakers and DACs aren’t receiving an intact audio stream from RoonServer through the network, and the accumulated sample dropouts eventually overwhelm the stream.

The good news is that we don’t see an obvious disconnection event with the Melody FM stream. We can likely resolve the above issues with a thorough inspection of Roon’s network pathway to the upstream router and to any access points serving your audio equipment.

Please let us know how you’ve configured your network hardware with regard to your RoonServer machine. How is it connected to the internet and to your other audio equipment?

hi connor,

not sure of your asking. i setup my entire roon on my pc. this including roon server and roon app. in the past, i typically run roon app when i want to listen to music, but lately i realize that i need to click on roonserver, then only click on roon app to start the application. not sure that would help.

as for network connection - it is just a straightforward wifi connection to my router. all other roon connect is via router connection as well and can be easily find in the roon setup.

not sure that helps, but do let me know specifically what you are looking for.

Hi @chow_min_tan,

MelodyFM isn’t disconnecting - your RoonServer is crashing in the background. Roon probably doesn’t close, but RoonServer stops and starts again, causing playback to stop.

In addition to the crash, your network endpoints (all the Zones relying on WiFi or ethernet) are losing data in their connection to RoonServer. In order to troubleshoot further, we’ll need to know how you are connecting your RoonServer PC to the internet, including all the managed network components involved (routers, access points, switches, and any networking software).

Please let us know if this helps!

hi connor
it is a simple and straightforward connection via PC build-in WiFi, receiving through my standard router.

in that case, perhaps i will try using a cat6 cable connection to my router to see if it disconnects.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey @chow_min_tan,

It’s definitely worth testing a hardwire connection when possible! Since some time has passed, we wanted to check in and see if things have performed better for you?

We’ll be on standby for your results. Thank you! :+1:
