Intermittent disruption when playing Melody FM live radio (ref#U4HN86)

surprising it can play but intermittently disrupted, saying something could not be play. :frowning:

In that case, you have the codec installed, and the station is setup correctly.

Since playback is disrupted, there is something else at play. For Roon technical support to be able to better assist you, can I kindly ask that you submit a support ticket by filling out the questionnaire using the below link?

Please select the option that best matches your specific issue type instead of simply selecting ā€œotherā€, as this form was created to help diagnose issues while gathering information and it will allow the support team to be able to best assist with your specific issue type. Thank you!

please be more prescriptive, the form is not really helping. it direct me to question that is not related to my problem.

i have tried again running on roon, it shows address may have changed.

Your problem is, ā€œ[Roon] can play but intermittently disrupted, saying something could not be playā€. Please describe this in the support form since we have established that the radio station works, and that you also have the codec installed.

If necessary, describe the message Roon displays.

Does it stop after 10 seconds? The m3u8 stream is composed of 10s chunks.

not exactly, at times it can’t be played. also, the play is short, so i can’t exactly pinpoint the duration. you can say it is about that ~10s

Hi @chow_min_tan,
Thank you for reaching out to us for help with this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

hi daniel
i try to replicate today but to no avail, when i click the play button, it tries to connect, then nothing. i have tried a few times but the same thing happens. it appear that it could not connect, thus i’m unable to play anything and not able to capture the intermittent duration.

That’s ok, just try again and note the time of the failure. @daniel will then see the relevant error messages in your logs.

i’m afraid i can’t replicate it. being reading a bit on m3u8. this could likely be the cause.
so far i could not play it anymore let alone the intermittent. could not get it play out.
by the way, other live radio station that play aac has no problem on my roon.

Don’t worry about getting the intermittent playing error; just produce the can’t connect error - that will still help.

Possibly, can you play RTE Lyric FM? - that has a .m3u8 stream.

yes rte lyric fm which is ireland 96.7 with default stream at AAC 160kbps. it can play on my roon but not melody FM. try again with right after i’m able to play RTE, result is the same.

hi there
i find it quite strange - i use the same url that you have found and create a new station with it, error message appear that roon is unable to find a station for that url.

got some good news
found this url which works and play more than 10s.
at first, roon recognize the url when i create in the ā€œnew stationā€. initially, it could not play, but after a few tries, stop play stop play. it worked! have a look at the url
https://stream.rcs.revma.com/2u1n6dtbv4uvv/9_11l86ncot7z1w02/playlist.m3u8
it is different from the one that you have input.
cheers

updates - after playing more than 1 hour or so of the radio station, i click stop and wanted to change to another playing source. Then i can’t play it anymore. when i click ā€˜play’, it appear trying link, then the stop button automatically turn back to ā€˜play’ .

updates - looks like i need to keep hitting the play button for a few times before it finally connects. it just won’t connect the first time when i stop playing the radio.

roon team might need to look at the connectivity perspective. when i go back using windows media player, it connects smoothly, just one click… and the radio is playing.

Not really.

The link used in the database can point to different URLs each time because of load distributing re-directions. You have used one of these.

There is no guarantee that such URLs will always be online and thus it’s better to use the original as is the case here.

What is interesting is that removing a level of re-direction has helped in your case, whereas other users see no issues.

Please do as @daniel asked and try and play the station (using the Roon database version) and post the time here, whether or not the station starts and stops or doesn’t start at all.

i have been playing the radio since 2 hours ago, feb 9th 1600 (GMT+8), till 1845 (GMT+8) before it abruptly end, showing error message something like ā€œsite may not be availableā€ā€¦

frustratedly me.
