Describe the issue

I'm having a problem with playback on a new KEF LSX II. I am using Roon for a Rose HiFi 130 on the same network without issues (though that's through ethernet).

LSX II firmware 3.0.137, Roon 2.71 build 1683.

KEF Connect playback works normally, while Roon intermittently produces distorted playback and then cannot start playback. Other RAAT endpoints work normally. Logs show RAAT__SOURCE_SELECTION_PLUGIN_STATUS_TIMEOUT and Lost, reason: source_deselected from the KEF endpoint.

I have logs if you want me to attach them.

Describe your network setup

Google/Nest Wi-Fi network (router identifies as Google OnHub), single LAN/subnet 192.168.86.x. Roon Server runs on a Mac mini connected via Wi-Fi at 192.168.86.39. KEF LSX II is connected via Wi-Fi at 192.168.86.199. HiFi Rose RS130 is also on the same network and works normally with Roon. No separate VLANs or guest network are involved.

If this is only happening with DXD (PCM 352.8 kHz) or DSD64+, this is a known issue, I have had it myself. This is a bug in the latest official firmware update 3.0.137 that KEF issued April 26, 2026. You can find other threads on the matter on this forum.

You can/should report the problem to KEF via the KEF Connect app („report an issue"). In my case, they came back early July with a new firmware (3.0.138) which is not officially distributed, yet. I supplied them the MAC address(es) of my LSX II, and the firmware was updated. Roon running smoothly again, since.

Hello @nhfslg4

Akio_Ito’s reply is the most useful thing here, so please follow that route. Open KEF Connect, use “report an issue”, and describe the distortion and the failure to start playback on firmware 3.0.137. He was given a newer firmware, 3.0.138, which is not publicly distributed yet, after supplying the MAC addresses of his speakers. Please tell us what KEF come back with, since that tells us whether they are handing that build out generally or case by case.

Two things worth having ready before you write to them.

Your Roon Server is on Wi-Fi and so is the LSX II, so audio crosses the wireless medium twice. That can produce the timeout you quoted on its own. Please connect the Mac mini by Ethernet if you can, even temporarily, so that neither of us is chasing the wrong thing. Note that your Rose RS130 comparison does not rule the network out, since it is wired.

Thank you both. I have a ticket open with Kef as well, but wanted to note a couple of things:

  1. The issue occurs for any media type, not just DXD / DSD. This is true after rebooting both the Kefs and Roon.
  2. The Roon core is on wifi. I thought that is supported? I’ll see if I have the ability to connect it to the ethernet for testing purposes.
  3. Since posting this, the Kefs won’t play at all through Roon. They show as trying to play and then nothing (including no error message). However, they continue to play fine through the Kef app.

I had this very same issue happen to me on my LSX II’s on Sunday 9th August, they would play fine on every other protocol but not Roon.
It occurred after stopping playback and then restarting after about a 10 minute break.
I could only get the LSX II’s to play again by rebooting my Roon core.

My LSX II’s are hardwired to each other and to the core, no Wi-Fi is used at all.

This issue has not occurred previous to updating to Roon 2.71 #1683.

I don’t believe it is a Roon 2.71 (build 1683) issue. I run #1683 and can stream RAAT to my LSX II without any issue that I am aware of. My LSX II have a wired connection to the network switch and to each other, so no WiFi. And as mentioned before, the LSX II are on 3.0.138.

Hey @nhfslg4,

If this issue is happening across multiple sample rates, please share a few specific examples - track names, and we’ll pull fresh Roon Server diagnostics to take a closer look.

Thank you! :+1:

This is about the same timeframe and I wonder if there’s any relationship? KEF LS60 Subtle "Crackling" or "Static" only with Roon
