System Status doesn’t show “Internal Music Storage” which I need in order to format the drive. I have read similar posts on this topic where some of the respondents are suggesting that you need a separate SATA drive to store music. The RoCK install guide only mentions that one SSD is needed. My 500GB drive has 430GB left after the ROON OS has been installed.
Please advise what course of action I need to take.
It doesn’t show because I don’t think you have installed a 2.5" drive that would be used for local storage of music files. The M.2 SSD is used only for the Roon OS and the Roon software. It cannot be used for local storage of music.
Hi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply. You are correct, I haven’t installed a separate drive for local storage of music files. I mistakenly thought that installing a 500GB M.2 SSD would cater for the ROON OS as well as my music files (only 242 GB). So in my case is the 500GB overkill, especially as it appears that ROON OS only uses about 70GB of the space on my SSD?
Hi Again Geoff,
I’m a retired old fart too:)
I’ve just gone out and bought a 500GB 2.5" SATA SSD. I inserted into my NUC - no problem. When I restart my NUC, the new drive doesn’t automatically show upon the Storage tab of Settings. I’ve tried re-booting. No new storage drive is showing. Could you provide any assistance please?
Hi Geoff,
Well you won’t believe it, but I’ve managed to muddle through it by myself and it appears to be working. I don’t know what I did, but the sun is shining and all is at peace with the world again.
Regards
Julian
Yup - the SSD won’t show up until you have formatted it using the format function that is on the Web Administration Interface page. Sounds as though you have completed all the steps necessary to get things up and running. Enjoy the music.
