Internal Storage

I’ve just added a 2TB Sata SSD in addition to the 500GB M.2 used for the ROCK operating system and database.

When I look at the storage on the ROCK config web page it shows:

Roon Database & Settings
OK
99% of 458 GB available. (calculation = 453.42GB)

Internal Music Storage
OK
2000GB, Samsung SSD 860
13% of 1848 GB available. (calculation = 240.24GB)

When I look at the Internal Storage via a Network Share connections it shows a total of 744.2GB available. (calculation 453.42 + 240.24 = 693.66)

Apart from the rounding difference, why does it show 744.2GB? Is this all available for music storage? If so which is used first Sata or M.2?

Some is reserved for growth of the music database.

OK but some is available for music storage?

The ROCK OS drive is never used for storage (or anything else except the OS) which is why the build tips suggest using the smallest drive for the OS drive.

So, you really have 240 ish GB on your storage drive. Personally, I never go below 10% on any drive.

OK so is the Network Connected Share just misreporting the size?

Yes. There was another thread about it if you are curious reference: (While the comment is about the internal OS drive and an external storage drive, the comment stands. you will not get individual drive size reports with the Network Connected Share)

So, reference the size from the ROCK web page.

Will do. So need to hope that either I can restrain the growth of the music collection or pray that 4TB SSDs drop in price soon.

I’m sure. I just got an ad last week for a one day sale on 2 TB Samsung drive for 175. USD

But, frankly, given it is just the music stored on the drive; an external USB 3.0 device, works great without lag. Its cheap enough to test out. Get an external WD 4 tb passport drive and test it out. They are about 105. usd at the moment on NewEgg. You probably won’t notice a difference. Even if you do, you can use it to keep a backup.
