Describe the issue

Playback of downloaded materials in the car CarPlay / directly in the car interrupts due to "the ghost in the app" going back to home screen?

Describe your network setup

Gigabit fiber, iptables, ping 2-8 ms

Additional info

I drive my cars in and out of coverage quite often, perhaps you would benefit from me being on your test panel? I use CarPlay through Kenwood DMX8020DABS / DMX8021DABS and DNR992RVS.

I’m not sure offline is the issue, or rather the inbetween offline and online; when coming back into coverage there is almost or very little connection, or the bandwidth requirement is too high for going in to or out of coverage.

When there is good coverage there is no issue, but then again there are no issues with TIDAL or own files when there is good coverage.

Hi @Gjermund_Thorsen,

Thanks for your report!

The best next step would be to reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time, and name of track playing when your issue occurs.

From there, our team will review a fresh diagnostic report from both Arc and your server, and we should be able to investigate further. Thank you! :+1:

This happens every time I go in or out of coverage. If I go north or east from my house this hardly ever happens. If I go west from my house this will happen each time 6-8 km from the house in a no coverage belt for cellular data.

Hi @Gjermund_Thorsen,

Understood! For diagnostic review purposes, and specific date, time, and name of track playing when the issue occurs is quite helpful for our team. Otherwise, we’re left guessing when it might happen :slightly_smiling_face: let me know the next time it occurs and I’m hoping we can gather additional information to relay to the team.

Thanks again!

Friday CEST 24/5-2024 04:00 through Sunday 26/5-2024 23:59:59, unable to play any downloaded content through, it is however possible to start playback, sometimes. No tunes played for long enough to go to the next track.

This is all about downloaded content.

The issue appears to be at drill down level, when I first choose Downloaded, I sometimes see the list of albums sometimes not, and if I’m lucky I get to drill down one layer further to see the content of the album, and if I’m really lukcy I get to push the first track, and then playback supposedly starts, yet it does not. the counter for the seconds may or may not count, yet there is no sound.

Tunes from the Roon server plays, yet after one track finishes there is no Roon radio or otherwise.

Anything unclear?

It’s also a common thing for server playbacks to play the first track of the album, play the first 5-15 secs of the next track before stopping, yet still display the first track, like today.

Does the team see any expected playbacks on my account at all? In my experience not being able to play back tracks is unexpected behaviour.

Could this be a CarPlay vs iOS issue?

It appears most the stuff that never happens on CarPlay is doable in iOS; while the latter is illegal in traffic.

Hi @Gjermund_Thorsen,

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! Our team will take a closer look and I should have more information to share shortly.

That said, throughout Arc logs we’re seeing quite a few errors in relation to memory on the mobile device, for example:

Unhandled exception: Out of Memory

Can you confirm you’re not maxing out on space? If you navigate to Roon Arc Settings and scroll down, what does the internal storage look like on the device?

In general i run Waze and Roon ARC, however there are the occatinal phone calls as well WhatsApp and FaceTime Audio. I’m quite good at killing apps, I hardly have more than 3 running at the same time.

Sorry for any confusion @Gjermund_Thorsen, perhaps a screenshot of your internal storage meter from within Roon Arc settings may be helpful - let me know if you’re able to share that our way. Thanks!

This one?

Yes exactly - thanks for sharing @Gjermund_Thorsen!

As a next step, would you be able to temporarily move your Roon Server, Remotes and Arc, over to our early access build? I’ll share the KB article below -

This would be the ideal setup for our QA team to further investigate, let me know if this is at all possible. Thanks! :+1:

Which link is the early access one? https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/linux-install#Overview

Hi @Gjermund_Thorsen,

You’ll want to use the install links located right on the early access KB listed above, here’s a link to the highlighted area :
