Introducing RoPieee - A RoonBridge-to-go image for the Raspberry Pi

Just my thoughts on this (highly subjective) - I like that they are large so it doesn’t take 3 attempts to hit the right button (like if they were too small) but maybe they can be less bold? It’s not easy, I know. Just thinking out aloud.

Something like Roon’s desktop app on full screen would be cool. With maybe the 3 play/pause/next track buttons right under the cover art (instead of the heart, repeat and shuffle buttons), and have progress bar at the very bottom and cover art in the background too, like Roon already does with the fullscreen view

I don’t know but something to fill the screen. No rush with that though. Let’s get the beta version stable first.

Nothing urgent but shutdown and reboot from the touchscreen’s settings page itself, would be great later, if possible.

I get the ‘in your face’. I’ll have a look. What I want to prevent is that the touch area get’s too small, but maybe we can have both.

Not sure I support this. Surely we have this via ROCK’s web page access. And if Roon Server or Roon is running on a PC, then those functions are already present in the device itself.

I’d prefer that this control surface follows KISS principles, rather than having ever more bells and whistles added. But’s that’s just my personal take on it.

Not to shutdown Roon Core but to shutdown or reboot Ropieee - as per the bottom of the ropieee.local settings page…

Just like PicorePlayer has too.

OK - then by all means keep these functions on the Ropieee web page. Just don’t, for the love of god, put them on the touchscreen…

Definitely not on the main screen, but the Touchscreen’s ‘settings’ page? Plenty of space and out of the way, and useful, no?

Still dangerous. I really want Roon to have an “Administrator” UI and an “ordinary user” UI tied to the profiles, so that family members and party guests have a simplified UI in which they can’t do any damage or silly things…

Fair point but I kindly disagree that shutting down Ropieee is dangerous, especially on the settings page, not main screen.

Anyway I’m sure Harry will consider both sides and choose whatever and I’ll be happy with what he chooses

Nope, it’s not dangerous, but falls into the “silly” category. As you say, we’ll leave it to Harry - it’s his product… :grinning:

Ok guys, the good news is that I can reproduce the issues you reported on grouping zone’s. With even in the end everything going to ‘unknown’. Now the question is how to solve it

Guys, I just pushed out another update to the beta channel.

This issue fixes the issue with grouping zones. So the touchscreen will keep on working when the RoPieee is added to a zone, including controls. Furthermore I’ve done some small design refinements based on feedback: the buttons are a little bit smaller.

This does not solve issues with multiple Roon core(s): i need to look into that. But as grouping zones seems something that happens quite often I wanted it to fix it asap.

Still beta, so please go out and test.

Thanks!

Can’t wait to test out the new version.

My 2 cents as far as the buttons go, I like the new ones better than the old ones, my suggestion would be to just remove the other white circle from the Play/Pause button. the circle doesn’t really display well on the 7 inch touchscreen and it would make it a bit cleaner imo. Maybe add a bit of shading or change the color to a very slight grey would help with the “in your faceness”.

Sorry Harry this is not working at all in my setup.

I only have one core but two ropieee systems. I Cant get any of them to work at all now with the interface. I am on the latest version but everything is stuck on unknown. I have taken one system out rebooted, removed the endpoint, rebooted, disabled an renabled the extension and still no good.

Any ideas as to what I can do?

Hey Harry could you direct me to the latest beta. I tried the link from a couple of weeks ago, but could see any configuration options.

Very happy to help with testing I’ve got three end points , though only one touchscreen

Just download the image from the link at the top of this thread and burn it your sd card.It will auto update to the latest build automatically when you install.

Hey Simon,
I had the same issue with a single end point, but I eventually got it to come back. Did you try a shutdown instead of a reboot? I power-cycled, removed extension, renamed extension, re-enabled extension. Not sure what fixed the issue but it is working now.

Ive got them both working again for the time being. reinstalled my 2nd one as the cards easy to take out on this unit, the other ones hidden away in the case so a pain to take out. I did powercycle the other unit and that came back. I also gave both of them new network names and have staggered the nightly reboot times. Lets see if this helps. Not really sure whats going on but I think the order you do things in seems to upset it some times.

Rebooted my Pi when i got home to trigger the new update. No problems on the update and controls with the zone or just the zone itself are both working great.

Hey Harry @spockfish

Group zones is working well.

Regarding the playback buttons, maybe thinner lines for the circle and pause lines, like Roon’s own buttons will be a little less bold? Even if you keep the size of the buttons the same, thinner lines might be easier on the eye? Maybe a little bit more spacing between them too, like Roon’s buttons too, would allow slightly smaller sizes

But the grouped zones is fantastic.
