Describe the issue

Roon Backup invalid path error

When I try to configure an automated backup I constantly get the error "invalid path"
The path leads to a folder on my NAS.
The interesting fact is, that I can make manual backups into that folder. So it is not a permissions problem. Only when I try to set up an automated backup I get the "invalid path" error
My ROCK also finds the manual backup in that folder and is also able to restore from that manual backup

Describe your network setup

Fritz!Box 7590 Router, 8 port ethernet switch Netgear GS308T, Synology NAS DS918+, Intel NUC11PAHi7,

Hi @Georg_Hutter,

Thanks for writing in - it’s good to see you community again!

When specifically are you attempting the auto-backup thats falling? Do you have anything else going on while this is happening?

From a fresh diagnostic report, we’re seeing the following error message when your Roon Server is attempting to create a backup:

Debug: [broker/backups] failed to CreateInitialDir: Result[Status=Unauthorized, ErrorText=Missing required permission to create directory: /roon/sys/storage/smbmounts/RoonStorage_31f84cff568efcf161340c1c8da7118ded33530f/Roon-Backup/RoonBackups/9129377a-61d5-4ba4-81bb-a03c8c98765a]

What happens if you temporarily hardwire your ROCK directly to your primary router and give it another try? Let me know the general date and time when you attempt the backup and we’ll take another look. :+1:

Hi Bemjamin,

it is really crazy

After i forced a manual backup to that folder on my NAS it created the necessary folder „RoonBackups“:

The manual backup has worked and is retrievable

Now comes the weird part:
I still get the invalid path error when i try to edit the automatic backup, BUT:

The automated backup works now!
It wrote the backup last night to that folder
The one with the 2AM timestamp is the automatic backup from last night:

So it seems to be some strange error in the ROCK user interface

The important part is, that the automatic backup seems to be working regardless of the error message in the user interface

So it seems to be working fine

Kind regards
Georg

Additional Info:

I plugged a USB Thumbdrive into the NUC running ROCK and tried to create an automatic backup
Exact same error and behavior like described above with the network share
Manual backup creates the folder and the backup works
Automatic backup works despite the “invalid path” error in the user interface

So it definitely seems to be a problem/bug within the ROCK system and not a network problem

Kind regards
Georg
