iOS 16.5 appears to break Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter

I haven’t updated my phone yet, but saw this last night. The article links to an Apple Support Community thread as well were the specific issue was the loss of connection to an external dac.

If you’re a frequent ARC user via an external dac on an iPhone, might be best to hold off. I would imagine/hope Apple would address this quickly with a 16.5.1 release given the photography angle of the adapter. I don’t think us external dac users represent a huge number of individuals, but that’s certainly an assumption on my part. No idea if this is a universal bug or just affecting some users - be careful out there!

YOLO

The Apple CCK adapter is the only thing I can use with my Mojo 1 and iPhone 13 Pro. The other OTG cables have not worked for me in a long time. Bloody :apple:

Let me update too and see what happens. Be right back

Oh wait… is this affecting only the big adapter - the one with two ports?

I only have the single one.

I’m trying it out with the single one anyways. Have not updated phone in a while so might as well do it.

Thanks for the heads-up. I think I’ll wait a while before updating, as I will use my Mojo on holiday in a few weeks. I have an iPhone Xs, and there’s at least one report for this phone.

13 Pro.

I also have a micro usb to lightning OTG cable which has never worked with the 13 but works with older models. Shame really since it was a much cleaner solution to using the mojo with the 13 pro.

I hate the dongle life :triumph:

Edit: added the 13 Pro bit to my previous post for others.

I have two CCKs and both went kerplunk on 16.5 for me. No joy on a 14 Pro and older iPad Pro. I have an M2 iPad Pro that was able to see the HDMI/USB-A/USB-C connector fine.

I hope a patch comes soon for those of us affected.

Good question but not sure. I am in the US and saw the MacRumors article only this morning. When I ran into problems last night I didn’t see as many reports online, so this seems to be a developing issue. I recommend updating only one device at a time and see what happens. I can live with the issue until a patch is issued but this is a really odd miss by Apple.

Works for me. I had to re-enable my iPhone 13 Pro Max in Roon - Settings - Audio

A dongle for all occasions including lightning, USB C, and HDMI.

EDIT: The FiiiO KA1 is probably the best expenditure yet.

EDIT2: Evidently, there is a problem here. When using my iPad 8th Gen, charging does not work. It works OK with iPhone.

I genuinely hope they do with the new models in september. Usb c is the way to go.

I believe the EU is making them do it anyways?

These work. I had to set them up again in Roon - Settings - Audio. iPad Mini 6 and iPad 8th Gen.

The story referred only to the one with the USB port and a lightning pass through for power. That’s the one I use. Haven’t updated yet, still going through the replies here, glad to see it’s not a universal issue! Agree, @AMT, the site is called MacRumors for a reason and no one is in a rush to the Apple Support Community to say that everything works fine!

Updated iPhone 12 Mini to iOS 16.5 and confirmed operational with

  1. Apple Camera dongle with my Zorloo Ztella DAC (USB A to C also)
  2. ddHiFi TC28i Lightning Male to Type-C Female OTG Adapter For iOS, also with Zorloo Ztella DAC

Playing ARC on the iPhone, Lossless 24/88.2 stream

My Lightning to USB 3 (type A) adapter has been struck by this iOS update. Actually I have 2 of them, both with same issue.

Many of the people above that aren’t affected, don’t have the specific adapter that is affected.

Good to see a lot of noise is being made around the web - hopefully that means a quick fix is coming.

Seems like this is a popular adapter still in 2023.

I know - I have 2 that stopped working 2 days ago due to update. Same as all the people complaining in all the articles.

But in this thread, there are people with other models saying they have no issues - that’s because their model is not affected.

The issue is charging phone at the same time. If I connect a Dragonfly it will still work, as that gets powered by the iPhone itself. But phone won’t charge.
