iOS 16.5 appears to break Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter

This works, including charging. As I posted above, I had to re-enable my devices in Roon - Settings - Audio.

EDIT: Evidently, there is a problem here. When using my iPad 8th Gen, charging does not work. It works OK with iPhone.

EDIT2: I’ll use my iPhone until Apple fixes the charging for iPads.

Updated my iPad, which I use with Roon less often than my phone. My Dragonfly works with the adapter, but the iPad doesn’t charge through the adapter, whether the dac is plugged in or not. I’ll probably hold off on my phone for a while - it’s my main source of music in my office. Looks like it’s a mixed bag, working fine for some, not working at all for others, and maybe even somewhere in between. I haven’t seen any mention of a fix in the 16.6 betas. Fingers crossed for a .1 update soon.

I use an older iPhone Xr at work with the camera dongle for ARC. I think I also will hold off on updating and keep a close eye on this thread.

Definitely broken for me. iPad plays through camera kit but doesn’t charge.

Me too
No more Charging

Does apple know of this feature and are they willing to fix it?

Hard to know. I have to imagine they are aware, it’s been reported in a number of venues in addition to the one I linked to initially. If or when it will ever be fixed is another question all together.

I have read that there is not a fix thus far in the initial beta releases of 16.6.

So apple ist helpless with its own software

That is how it feels, agreed. They aren’t exactly known for active communication with users (or even developers - see this discussion of frustrations related to bug reporting, about 35 minutes in) regarding problems or fixes in their software or hardware.

It would be reassuring to hear that they are aware and a fix is forthcoming, but I’m sure others who have lived and breathed in those worlds (the world of a very large corporation and the world of software development, neither of which I have any experience in except as a customer) could speak to why they will never do that. And that, I agree, is frustrating.

Better for people to provide feedback to Apple than forums

Have you contacted them?

Apple is not providing any site to send bugs.

Of course they do - did you Google?
Tell them you have the same issue as in the macrumours artcle - copy and paste the link.

Haha, have a good time by trying this - it is wasted time.
Maybe you prefer talking with a roboter voice, than this is your turn.

There is a nice workaround.
Use an USB-C-Charger with >= 20 Watt

Then it ist working like using 16.4
Charging is fine again

Just ask them to pass to the link to the engineers…

I don’t think anyone expects a software fix over the phone.

If nobody reports it, how would Apple know? Talking about it here is useless.

Defining in my case “works with iOS 16.5”: Those DACs with are happy enough with the current supplied by the iPhone/iPad work (ex: audioquest red). Those needing extra current supplied by the lightning input (ex. iFi micro DSD), don’t.

Bottom line: iOS 16.5 killed lightning USB3 camera adapter charging capabilities. Other previous versions do work well.

This is a fact: I spoke yesterday with Apple support and they acknowledge the issue. They say it will will be solved by a future iOS update, date TBD,

Nevertheless, they still sell this dongle in the apple web, w/o any comment about (in their own acknowledgment) it’s not working with iOS 16.5.

Does the issue affect the charging of the iPhone or providing enough power to charge external DACs that do not have an independent charging option and are demanding with their power needs (unlike the Dragonfly)?

iPhone ceased to charge through the adapter after upgrade to iOS 16.5. Dragonfly still works, getting its “juice” from the iPhone/iPad

Fake adapter?

It’s the official adapter. I called Apple support and they acknowledge the issue with iOS 16.5. Works well with older iOS versions
