Description of Issue

I’ve suddenly having connection issues after enjoying a very long period of uninterrupted functionality.

My iOS devices can no longer find my Nucleus despite STILL having access to the Nucleus with web UI and access to mounted data folder via Mac Mini M2.

I have to remedy this performed the following:

  • Turn off/on nucleus, router, modem unplugged ethernet
  • Reset network via HDMI to external monitor
  • Reset Roon database
  • Restart Roon server software
  • Reinstalll OS via web UI

Hi!

Fellow user here. The first thing I’d do if it just affect iOS devices, is to verify that the iOS devices are on the same network subnet as the core, meaning that the IP of the iOS device should, in your case based on your pics, start with 192.168.1.XXX (the last set of number should be different).

Sometimes, Wifi settings can get changed such that the wifi devices are on a different network subnet from the wired devices. The solution, if this is the case, is to go into your network gear and make sure everything is one network. subnet.

Hi @Daniel_Hill

Another fellow users here.

As per @Rugby

But also, your Linksys is not likely to be your ISP device. If you have a ISP router, ensure that is in modem mode or whatever it may call it.

:innocent:

Edit 1: if you’re with Virgin Media, you can put the ISP superhub into modem mode. Normally accessible via 192.168.0.1

Edit 2: just updating one of my kids iPads to 17.0.3 to see if this is an iOS related issue

Edit 3: update to iOS 17.0.3 hasn’t broken Roons discovery for me. Makes me feel your iOS devices may be on another subnet.

@AMT Thanks for your check up on iOS software update compatibility.

@Rugby
Thanks for the subnet check suggestion. Went into my wifi routers device info panes and … yes the iOS devices and Nucleus are on the same (first 6 digits) subnet address.

Hi @Daniel_Hill

First 6?

192.168.xxx.xxx

Or are they

192.168.1.xxx

For example

My Roon server is
192.168.1.30

My Android Roon remote is
192.168.1.43

My Fiio R7 is
192.168.1.40

With your Linksys router, do you also have wireless nodes?

@AMT yes, your ip address match mine (the first 6 digits)
I’m in an apartment so we don’t need mesh nodes and I haven’t configured them for use.
Thanks

What about the 7th digit the xxx.xxx.1.xxx?

Are yours sharing the same including the 1?

Do you have an ISP router box thingy?

Or to add on, a VPN running? Also, check to make sure IPv6 on the router is turned off as that might affect things.

@AMT. No VPN running and the router settings have not changed pre-failure.

I’m inclined to believe I have a corruption issue not a networking issue. I am currently running a Lumin Server
and a Synology Server and all the usual wifi devices and have no connection issues except for the Nucleus. The fact that the
Nucleus can still receive and respond to network requests point to a deeper issue.

I’d like to have a Roon Administrator walk me through
reformatting my internal drive if their diagnostics point to it as a solution. The one thing I have noticed is that the Roon Nucleus does not like
to be accessed by both IOS devices and Roon software on a Mac. I normally only access the Nucleus via wifi IOS devices,
however since I just set up a new Mac Mini M2,
I thought I’d try it out. Might be my imagination, but problems began after that or I did not properly eject the network connected
file storage.

Please reboot your whole network of devices starting from the ISP router (if you have), Linksys, including Nucleus, Lumin, Mac, and especially iPad and iPhone.

On the Mac, make sure you disable the firewall.

@wklie Thanks for the suggestion, I had already powered everything down. I’ve followed your advice many times on the Lumin forums and I appreciate your help. Looking forward to seeing the L2!

For those who have been or might follow this thread, here is what I have done that has resolved the issue. I had gone back to a previous build back up which helped but I was still having to reboot. What fixed solid and immediate wifi connection was to unplug out of my network switch and connect directly to my wifi router. Seems to have cleared up any handshake issues. In my personal opinion the Nucleus is not an audiophile solution, it is a
convient solution for storing large quantifies of music with a faultless on demand network
requests. I have compared the Nucleus to the Lumin L1 and although lacking in Roon’s
incredible meta data, it does sound better in (my) system. As Wylie has said many times
the L1 is very simple in function and playback, the nucleus has much more complexity.

That may indicate the switch is dying and due for replacement. I have reasons to believe GS308 is better.

Its one of my go to’s.
