Hi, I can’t seem to find an answer to this basic question. If I have a Nucleus (rev. B), is the Nucleus One an upgrade? I find I have persistent dropouts and hangs with my current model but not sure if the new one is going to resolve those issues. BTW, I currently have 3818 albums and 63000 songs.
Looking at the specs, I would say it’s the replacement for the previous generations of the Nucleus models.
Your library size is within those specs, so if you are having issues, I suggest that you open a Support Request in the Support category of the forum which is monitored by Roon.
Note, the Support link is clickable and will take you to the correct place to create your request by clicking on the “Get Help” button.
Thank you.
I think a Nucleus (rev. B) is getting on a bit now… though 3818 albums / 63000 songs is not excessive. How are you connecting it to your DAC: USB or network? Perhaps your dropouts and hangs are network related? Another thing that makes a huge performance difference is the internal M2 SSD drive (Roon OS and database), but honestly, if you change this, you may just as well bite the bullit and go for a new Nucleus (or NUC).
Thanks…this may be my best option.
Thanks…It’s not connected directly to the DAC - it’s hard wired to the router and the streamer is as well. Then the streamer is connected to the DAC. I have a fast network so I would hope that’s not the issue over ethernet. At this point the cost of entry to the new Nucleus One is so low that it may be worth it to just get one. Appreciate the reply.
Never mind my question I guess…turns out the new Nucleus is still not available in Canada. (Sigh).
Even 768kHz 32 bit PCM uses just less than 5% of the bandwidth of a 1Gbps wired ethernet network (or 50% of the bandwidth of a 100Mbps network). Network bandwidth alone is will not be an issue in any well constructed modern network unless you are doing crazy things with multiple zones and extreme sample rates and bit depths at the same time.
In fact, my streamer, an Arcam ST60, only has a 100Mbps network connection because, for an endpoint, that is all that is needed. Admittedly, the ST60 tops out at 192kHz/32bit which is a much lower data rate than many.
