Is there a “correct” or best practice way to use ARC to avoid problems, or is it just inherently asking for trouble and should basically be avoided?
Use it as described. Don’t put it into a DMZ, neglecting the instructions. IMHO the risk is negligible, more so with ROCK/Nucleus. The safest computer is enclosed in a block of concrete at the bottom of the ocean, and yet you are online and browsing the web.
I haven’t seen anything describing how to use it, are there official instructions somewhere?
[edit: not that it matters really, as ARC doesn’t work for me anyway!]
There is a link to the setup instructions directly in Roon > Settings > Roon ARC, which points to here:
In addition, there is:
and
and a few other ARC pages in the help for specific things
Thank you!
So, I just let it do the automatic setup, which is, thankfully, the recommended way, now I’ve read the second link through.
It links to my Roon fine and displays my recent activity, but I can’t play anything. I just get a message “Poor Connection: try again or listen to your downloads” every time I try to use ARC. This is regardless of the speed of connection I’m on, even in the house where the main Roon install is. Tidal plays full-res fine, so there’s definitely something going on…
[edit: it is not displaying my recent activity, in fact, it hasn’t synced since a few months when I first set it up. It worked then, with exactly the same setup on the home network…]
Does this happen on your local wifi as well? When did you install the ARC app, a while ago?
Oh, seeing your edit, I guess yes. Just a moment, I will be back
See my post immediately above. This should help:
Poor Connection messages even on home wifi happen and can usually be fixed by resetting the ARC app from Home > Settings. Sometimes, an uninstall/reinstall of the ARC app is necessary.
However, you will lose any downloads in ARC in either case.
This seems to happen sometimes, e.g., after updating (but apparently not only):
Resetting the ARC app seems to have done it, at least while at home. I’ll test out and about tomorrow.
Thanks for your help!
