Hello
Recently I bought CD Player (finally!) but unfortunately I’m not able to connect my CD via digital input to my Genelec speakers. Or maybe I could but now I have Yellowtec PUC Lite used to convert USB (Ropiee) to AES format.
There is also AES input which I though should be great feature to connect my CD but:
SPDIF-AES cable doesnt work with this input but DOES work connected directly to Genelec. So maybe it’s broken or not enough sensitive… no idea. I have short 0.5m cable…
even if it worked there is another problem - how to change volume. Then I should buy additional equipment from Genelec (remote or wired volume controller)
But as I can see Wiim Ultra has SPDIF input and USB OUTPUT ? Is it true? Does it mean I could use both sources - Roon and CD together and control volume using Wiim device?
I mean:
CD → Wiim → Yellowtec → Genelec
And if volume via USB will be controlled by Wiim too (remote/knob) ?
Seems you can connect Roon to the Wiim using Ethernet or WiFi (the Wiim doesn’t have a USB input) and connect your CD using optical. I’m not sure about volume control. The Wiim has a front mounted volume knob, but I think you need to use the app for remote volume control. Whether that works for all sources, I don’t know.
I have a different setup then yours, however, I’ve connected my Vinyl and CD > Wiim Ultra > DAC via USB > Amp . I can control both with Wiim’s volume knob or on the Wiim app.
Yes you can. I used to do this on a pro it’s no different in operation to the Ultra. If you turn on auto switching in the Wiim app for optical it will auto switch to that input when it sees a signal. Might clip the beginning slightly as it has a delay but it works well. If you manually do it won’t get the start clipped.
My main issue related to the product can be strange… but I don’t like supporting Chinese brands
So I hope I will find something better from Europe/USA below about 1.5k$
But first I will check Wiim
That doesn’t change anything they will be manufacturing over in China to get cheap labour and capitalise on this and charge twice as much to consumers as this is what they all do. Hardly ethical in itself. They are all two faced when it comes to Hunan rights happy to champion it from a PR perspective, yet happy to reap it to increase profits.
„Similar” is Rose 250B from Korea but 6x more expensive - but also with much better screen. I will check Wiim…
My Musical Fidelity is Made in EU and I’m always very very happy when I can see product not made in China. Which is rare nowadays…
I always checking it. Always.
It’s my audio voodoo - such devices sound much better!
Ok I can start complaining
Not sure why there is no black version. My dream setup would be rather silver but because my headphone amp and CD Player are both black I’m trying to complete all devices in this color.
Wiim is either silve or greish.
But main problem - presets. You have quite interesting simple remote.
with 4 preset buttons.
Completely useless for me.
My presets:
CD - set input to optical and output to USB (it would be great to switch screen to fancy VU screen)
Roon - set input to Ethernet and output to USB (with info about album)
Headphone 1 - like CD but with line out with fixed volume
Headphone 2 - like Roon but with line out with fixed volume
But - no idea how to set it - it looks that you can set Preset only to radio station or what ?
According to Wiim forum there is “…” - and then you can set it. And it seems that there is users request to add such feature…
Ok I remember price of this device but for me it was obvious that it would work this way
