Issue: Cannot add Holo May DAC (in Settings Audio Tab) after upgrading Roon Server to M4 Mac Mini

My setup has 2 components:
Roon Server (NUC PC before, now upgraded to M4 mac mini)
Roon Node Win 10 PC
DAC (Holo May) connected via USB to Win 10 PC

When initially I set it up (with old NUC PC as Roon Server) - I could not see the DAC until I adjusted Firewall settings on W10 Roon Node PC. Once I adjusted firewall - Roon Server could see the DAC and all was good.

Now, I upgraded Roon Server to run on M4 mac mini, and once again - DAC is gone!
Completely disabling firewall on W10 PC - still shows no DAC in settings :frowning:

PLEASE help. Why can’t Roon Server on M4 see my DAC??

Thanks.

Looking some more into it… I am now suspecting the issue is on the M4 side.
I have an Apple TV that old (NUC PC) Roon Server saw in the “Settings → Audio” tab, but the M4 cannot see that either! What would prevent the M4 mac mini from seeing Apple TV and the DAC connected to my W10 endpoint?

Trying to run Roon on my phone - trying to setup an output (audio) device, here is what I see: (2nd screen shot is after scrolling to show more devices)

So, I cannot setup my phone as the output device?! what gives?
Forgot to mentions Roon is running latest version on ALL devices (M4 mac mini, Android phone, Win10 PC).

Thanks for any help…

This looks like the standard issue between RoonServer and recent macOS releases. For some reason, macOS security disables local network access for RoonServer. Here’s how I have fixed it. I’ll assume you can access your Mac Mini, with a connected monitor or with Screen Sharing:

  1. Quit Roon from the Roon menu on the menu bar

  2. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network

  3. Toggle off the RoonServer slider and turn it back on

  4. Restart RoonServer. The easiest way is to start the Roon app locally on the Mac Mini, which will bring RoonServer up again.

This has worked for me several times, as the problem recurs with macOS and Roon updates.

Fernando, you are my hero!!!
Problem is now solved.
I saw the Local Network settings were correct, so never even thought I need to disable and re-enable them :man_facepalming:

Thanks for making my day

Yup, not intuitive. My guess is that something in the background, macOS or Roon update, disables local network access, but System Settings does not see it. Toggling off and then on re-syncs RoonServer local network access with what is showing on System Settings. But that needs to be done with RoonServer stopped, because the change does not affect running processes, only new RoonServer processes starting up. Been around buggy system software way too long
