I am able to use roon arc on my iPhone and via CarPlay. I have installed tail scale on my iPhone and Mac mini that I use as a server. The settings show that it’s connected, and the graphics refresh and show my library and when I select a song it attempts to play. If I choose a song or album that’s saved via tidal it will play perfectly in Roon arc, but if I’m trying to play music that I have ripped from a CD to my hard drive on the server is times out and says “ poor connection” my cell connection is good and all other apps perform normally. Even when it won’t play the music, the display shows the album graphics and the song name scrolls as though it’s working. Even the time remaining counts down. Just no sound and then times out. If I immediately switch to a saved tidal song it plays as normal.
Describe your network setup
Tailscale on both iPhone and Mac mini. ISP is Starlink and using an express VPN router but vpn disabled for Mac and iPhone. Using a dynamic dns via Dynu
We’ve activated diagnostics to take a closer look at logs and have captured a local track-loading failure with ARC on this device. From what we can tell, the RoonServer machine switched network pathways between Tailscale and another network interface moments before the timeout; ARC logged a “soft offline,” retaining cloud access and attempting to load images and audio from the cache.
Let’s clarify a few details before proceeding:
Do you have any network hardware other than the Starlink gateway and express VPN? In particular, we’re interested in managed switches or access points/mesh nodes.
If you try Cloudflare as your router’s DNS provider, do you have a more stable experience? (1.1.1.1)
How often do you restart the ARC app? Does restarting ever restore connectivity under these conditions? I recognize this is an inconvenient test in the car.
We’ll keep an eye out for a response and follow up from there. Thanks!
