After the latest roon update Airport Expresses are not working. They are enabled, but audio is not being sent. Pressing play shows the pause button momentarily, then goes back to the play arrow.

@Mark_Morgan, what version of Roon are you using, this has been a known issue:

It has been addressed for the most part (all of my AE version 1 devices are working now) in the Production build 1413, and with some additional tweaks still being assessed in the Early Access build 1417:

Just upgraded to build 1413 (Windows 10 64 bit), that’s when the problem started.

Did some troubleshooting, verified I can play iTunes or use a Mac’s audio to play music on the Airport Express devices, but not Roon.
I purchase a Belkin Soundform. It worked with Roon fine until I unplugged it and tried it in a location with weaker wifi connection. It would not work there (not surprising), but now does not work from any location. however it too works with iTunes and Mac audio, just not Roon.

Roon has made some additional AirPlay optimizations through build 1417 (which is an Early Access release). You may have to wait for the next Production relaese that will include these more recent modifications.

One thing Roon mentioned is that after 1413 (or through 1417) is installed on your Roon Server, it helps to reboot the server and possibly all endpoints to ensure the updates take effect.

Hi @Mark_Morgan ,

Thanks for the report here. Can you please let us know the exact local time + date + track when you next experience this issue? Do other Airplay devices except the Expresses still work as expected?

No Airplay devices, either Apple Express or Belkin, are working with Roon at this time and have not for several days. Bouncing the server and devices has no effect.

Hi @Mark_Morgan,

Sorry for any confusion here -

Let us know the specific date and time and track attempted to play so we can better analyze a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server.

In the meantime, lets also see if refreshing your Roon database may help:

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Track: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny, Beyond the Missouri Sky

I’d prefer to hold off rebuilding my library. The library is quite large (30,360 tracks), rebuilding takes a long time and can be problematical.

Hi @Mark_Morgan,

You have the option to restore from a saved backup (the first step,) there’s no rebuilding necessary

Thanks for sharing the timestamp, our team will investigate further. I hope to have more to share soon.

My apologies @Mark_Morgan, we’re not able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

Thanks!
