Issue with channel mapping when using Eversolo DMP-A6 with Denon AVRX3600 (ref#NJ59Q1)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Side/Rear surround channel switching. Using Eversolo DMP-A6 gen 2, Denon AVRX3600 via HDMI, playing 4.0/5.1 DSD files I want to swap side surrounds to rear surround. I have tried channel mapping in Muse but the surround channels go silent.

Is this something Roon can achieve with Eversolo or am I missing something?

Hi @Mike_Wilde,

Thanks for reaching out!

The silence you are experiencing when using Muse to map the channels is likely because manual mapping pushes the audio into a configuration your current Device Setup layout isn’t expecting (or the HDMI handshake is locked to 5.1), causing those remapped channels to be dropped.

However, Roon actually has built-in logic and specific settings designed exactly for your scenario, which bypasses the need for Muse DSP channel mapping entirely.

According to Roon’s Multichannel Channel Mapping architecture:

Here is how to set this up natively so both your 4.0 and 5.1 files play out of the rear speakers:

  1. Disable Muse Mapping: First, turn off or bypass the manual channel mapping you created in Muse to ensure a clean signal path.
  2. Access Device Setup: Go to Settings → Audio in Roon. Click the gear icon next to your Eversolo DMP-A6 and select Device Setup.
  3. Show Advanced: Click Show Advanced to reveal the full list of options.
  4. Change Channel Layout to 7.1: Change your Channel Layout to 7.1. (This step alone should fix your 4.0 DSD files, as Roon will now natively map Quad content to the RL and RR channels).
  5. Enable Channel Swap: To force your 5.1 files to also play through the rears instead of the sides, find the toggle named “Swap rear and surround channels” (this only appears when 7.1 is selected) and set it to Yes.

Give this a try with your DSD files and let us know if this gets those rear channels firing correctly!

Hi Vadim, Thanks for getting back to me with this advice.

I have tried what you are suggesting but I only get the option for 2.0 or 5.1. I have tried the Eversolo on a Yamaha AVR which is 7.1 and get the same results. I have tried a factory reset on the Eversolo and changed HDMI cables to no avail.

I have also connected to an old Sony 7.1 channel AVR which is connected to my PC. I have Roon installed on the Windows PC (Windows 11), Roon gives the 7.1 option with this. If I connect the Eversolo to the Sony AVR it doesn’t give me any channel options at all!

I have problems with Eversolo loading files, often reporting nothing to play or dropping play between tracks. My source is a Synology NAS drive and all network connections are via Ethernet.

I am beginning to wonder if the Eversolo might be faulty?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Kind regards

Mike.

Hello @Mike_Wilde

Thank you for running those extensive tests across your different AVRs. Your suspicion about a hardware or firmware issue with the Eversolo is likely correct.

  • The HDMI Handshake: Roon relies entirely on what an audio endpoint reports it can handle. Since the Eversolo is restricting or completely dropping channel options when connected to known 7.1 receivers, it is failing to pass the correct hardware capability (EDID) information to the network.
  • Playback Drops: The additional issues with file loading and network playback further point to an underlying system stability issue within the unit itself.

Because these behaviors are rooted in the Eversolo’s internal firmware and specific HDMI implementation, our team lacks the proprietary tools to troubleshoot the unit directly. Reaching out to Eversolo’s technical support or your dealer with your cross-testing results is the best path forward.

Hello @Vadim,

Thanks for your reponse and further advice. I understand your diagnosis and will take this up with Eversolo customer support.

Kind reagrds

Mike.

Hello @Mike_Wilde,

You are very welcome! I hope the Eversolo support team is able to get that unit sorted out for you quickly and painlessly.

Since you’ll be working with them on the hardware side, I am going to go ahead and close this thread. If you ever run into any other questions or need help with Roon in the future, please don’t hesitate to open a new topic—we are always here and happy to help.

Wishing you the best of luck, and happy listening!
