Issue with live radio streams stopping due to metadata (ref#OOF0OQ)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

Tell us what's going on

· When playing live radio streams that contain metadata, the player eventually stops. The amount of time varies, but it's usually within a half hour. I have observed this behavior with Radio Paradise, Naim Radio, and others. Radio Paradise happens to have corresponding streams that don't send metadata, and I can play those with no problems. I always stream FLAC streams, but to narrow this down I tried an AAC stream and it also exhibited the problem. I have Roon Server version 2.70 (build 1671) running on Ubuntu Linux version 24.04.4. I don't remember exactly when I first started seeing this problem, but I think it was early July.

· The Linux server and my player (Cambridge Audio CXNv2) are on the ethernet with two simple ethernet switches between them. No VPN.

Hi @Andrew_Schweig, welcome back to the community, and thanks for the detailed report.

This does sound like a playback stability issue tied to live streams, especially since it seems to affect multiple stations and formats, while non-metadata variants keep playing normally.

To get a clearer picture, a few things would help:

  • What is your network setup between Roon Server and the CXNv2, especially the switch models and whether anything else sits between them?
  • When the stream stops, does Roon show an error, or does playback simply end or stall in place?
  • Have you noticed whether this happens with any live stream that carries metadata, or only with certain stations?

We’d also like to enable diagnostics on your account, then have you note the exact local date and time the next time it happens, along with the station that was playing. That gives us a solid window to inspect what Roon Server is doing when the stream drops.

If you can share those details, we can take the next step from there.
