Yes, it’s how IPv4 addresses are displayed in IPv6 format.
It seems everything is ok, but I am having a very difficult time migrating. What would be the next step to begin migrating? When I try to shut down the server software, I cannot get back to Roon to run it as a remote.
You can shut down the Roon Server if you copy the files through the computer’s file manager, the „alternative version“ here:
This isn’t required but can be helpful if copying a large number of albums in one go.
Obviously, shutting down the Roon Server is not an option if you want to drag the files into the Roon window because then the Roon app can’t connect to the server
So you are saying I should go to file manager and drag and drop, without trying to turn off server software.?
What is the difference between drag and drop and using the file manager? Aren’t they the same thing?
It‘s an option
I specifically said
Drag and drop is a common mouse action, but it makes a difference where you drag from and where you drop into.
I was thinking, maybe wrongly, that you try to drop the files onto the Roon window, as per the first option on the page that I linked:
Importing Music to Internal Storage
Drag and Drop (Recommended)
You can easily import files to your Nucleus by simply dragging and dropping files into Roon from one of your remotes:
Because this is the only way of importing music that would not work if you stop the Roon Server Software like this on the web admin page of the Nucleus, which I thought you might be doing, because the documentation makes this recommendation in several places:
This can’t work because you wouldn’t have a working Roon control app if the Roon Server Software was stopped like this, because the app wouldn’t be able to connect to the Nucleus.
If you drag and drop in the computer’s file manager instead, as per the second option,
SMB Connection (Alternate Option)
You can copy music to this drive by visiting the network share:
From a Windows PC
Open File Explorer
Enter \NUCLEUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage
If you have issues connecting, please see this article for additional help
From a Mac
Open Finder
Press Command + K
Enter smb://NUCLEUS/Data/Storage/InternalStorage
Be sure to replace NUCLEUS with NUCLEUSPLUS if you have a Nucleus+ If asked for a username and password, use
Guest
for both.
… then this is not a feature that the Roon Server Software provides. It is solely a feature that is provided by the operating systems (Finder on macOS and the file sharing functionality of Roon OS on the Nucleus). Therefore, if you do this then the music import should work regardless of whether you stopped the Roon Server Software on the web admin page of the Nucleus. All that’s necessary is that the Nucleus is running. (However, stopping the Roon Server Software is a good idea, as recommended in the documentation, if you import large numbers of albums at once, because then Roon doesn’t start to analyze it immediately while the copying is not yet finished)
I started dragging and dropping, using 3 finger drag, and everything started to move, and the numbers on my Roon were beginning to increase, and I was pleased. But all of a sudden Roon closed and the process of copying on my Nucleus ended. What went wrong? I believe now I must reformat the internal drive in Nucleus, and start this process over. But why is Roon closing all of a sudden and stopping the process? Maybe I should move small bits at a time? thank you for your help.
That’s because you restored a backup from your MacBook. Simply edit this and change to Nucleus.
No need to do this.
That would make sense, especially if you have a large library and Wi-Fi is in the mix.
.
I have been able to move small batches at a time. But the small circle in the above right attachment keeps revolving, like Roon is thinking. Do we know why that is? Will it stop? Or am I doing something wrong?
Click on the revolving arc and you will get a message telling you what Roon is doing…
I pushed the revolving circle, and you see one of the messages that it has transferred a batch successfully. Yet there is another message which mentions failed back up.I added a backup to a flash drive attached to Roon. Still revolving…I will try restarting Nucleus to see if the revolving circle goes away…
I am still unclear about something:
Must we 1.)restore backup then 2.) drag and drop files into library page of Roon? both 1 and 2?
Thank you, Community… After a week of persistence and help from all of you, I believe I have set up my Nucleus 1… there were some issues, worth reporting and questioning:
- When I restored backup, I got all the way, but as soon as everything was restored, the database counted backwards to only the tunes from my Qobuz account.
- When I dragged and dropped, Roon shut down, so I am unclear if I copied everything, and I didn’t want to do it again, as I dread duplicating. I only dragged by groups of each letter of the alphabet, therefore I only dragged a little bit at a time.
I appreciate everyone’s patience and assistance. I believe I am almost there, and I understand more about Nucleus, ie it was a learning experience.
Thanks
Yes, because the backup is just the backup of the Roon database, not the music files. The first reply in this thread pointed to the Nucleus Migration Guide, which gives the correct sequence of steps:
ok, thank you
