Describe the issue

I just set up my new Nucleus 1 and added to my network. I tried migrating music from my MacBook Pro to Nucleus without success. I tried to restore backup onto Nucleus 1, and I do not see the file browser, only dropbox file, which I dont have. I tried, also, to move music files to the Nucleus 1 Roon Browser without success. The only music which is on Nucleus at the moment is only the Quobuz music I downloaded. Please help.

Describe your network setup

Eero Router connected to a switch, one cable attached to Cambridge CXN V2. Eero Router is connected to Xfinity Modem.

This Roon guide should help …

I have performed the steps, including copying music files into Roon Page. I am stuck somewhere. I need help in checking my steps. I might have flubbed somewhere. I formatted the drive I installed in the nucleus 1. So any ideas? The migration guide is good, but I can’t figure out what I did wrong…

Hi @Robert_Salz,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. Can you8 provide us with a screenshot of the storage settings in Roon. You can find this under Roon settings (the gear icon) → storage. Additionally please share a picture of your nucleus’ web admin page.

Here you go. Please help me to the end. I am a bit confused. I backed up onto a usb flash drive. I reformatted the Nucleus drive…and I would like to start from scratch with your help.Thank you.

After I reformatted the ssd in Nucleus 1, I started the process again, and this is what I got. They both refer to my Mac, but you can see that Nucleus One is in small writing below MacBook Pro.

I havent heard back from you. Can you give me, at least a smoke signal? I am officially lost…I have re-traced steps to get to the same place, which is , I can’t get anything to work. Please assist.

On the first screenshot of the Nucleus internal storage settings, your Roon remote is clearly connected to the Nucleus. Good.

But in the third screenshot, it’s connected to the MacBook and using the Roon Server on the MacBook. This doesn’t look intentional?

In this state you wouldn’t be able to see the music on the Nucleus even if it was successfully copied

Hi @Robert_Salz,

Ben with the support team following up - thanks for writing in and sharing your report!

@Suedkiez is correct - the first screenshot you shared was the correct setup you’re wanting:

You’ll want to gain access to your Internal storage folder from your mac running as a Roon remote, with your Nucleus functioning as your new Roon Server.

Can you provide more specific details around how you performed this process? Did you attempt the drag and drop method?

I’ll be on standby for your reply. Thanks!

I attempted restoring from the USB drive after backing up. After I shut down the server software, I could not get back to the Roon Software to drag and drop. I believe I should start all over…let me ask you a question: when you restore a backup, does that mean you don’t have to drag and drop: Or do you perform both actions, 1.) restore 2.) drag and drop.?

If we could chat on a phone, we could be done with this quickly? It has been 4 days now where I am lost and frustrated.

But to answer your first question, yes I attempted to drag and drop, using my MacBook to move the files to the Roon library, as shown in your migration picture.

Ben, how do I run Roon as a remote? From the migration guide, it says: stop the Roon Server software. When I do that I am blocked from going into Roon!! Please help. It is five days now. I need help! How do I get consistent support? I am frustrated as hell!!

Hi @Robert_Salz,

If your saved backup contains your local library, and you haven’t moved or relocated the location of your local library / watched folder path, then you do not need to perform both actions. A restore would be all you need.

If you moved the location of your library, you would need to restore the backup and then update your watched folder path.

First, make sure your Nucleus is powered on and connected to your network. From there, open Roon on your Mac and navigate to Roon Settings>General

What do you see? Is your Mac running as Roon Server? If yes, click “X Disconnect” and you will be led to the ‘Select your Roon Server’ screen, it looks like this, only you should see your Nucleus as an option instead of ROCK:

By selecting your Nucleus as your Server, you’re automatically now using your Mac as a remote.

Sorry for your frustration! While I can absolutely understand how difficult it can be not having your system set up correctly, we’re a small team and work as quickly as we can to respond to each thread. I appreciate your patience while we continue to work through your issue.

I think I should start over. I am totally lost at this point.

I reformatted and I see the message attached. I really need help and we are not getting anywhere. Anything I do does not work for me. What can we do to resolve this?

Now I tried restoring a backup I created from My MacBook Pro. I restored onto Nucleus, and it started with 19,000 tracks and disintegrated to only the tracks I downloaded from Qubuz. Every time I try something, I get no where. My feeling is that there is confusion about location of music folder. How can I resolve this?

Hi @Robert_Salz,

It’s unclear if you followed my initial steps shared? No need to make any changes from the webUI of the Nucleus.

This screenshot you’ve shared:

When you open Roon on your Mac, this is when you navigate to your Roon Settings. Click the cogwheel icon in the upper left corner next to ‘roon’.

This will take you to the ‘General’ section of your settings, where you can review what your Roon Server machine is. If it says Nucleus, then you are in the right configuration.

If it says “This Mac” then follow my steps listed in my previous reply with clicking ‘X Disconnect’

Hope this helps!

It says MacBook Pro, but if you look at the ip , that is the address of the nucleus 1.

As I have tried to explain, I am attempting to move the music over, and cannot do it. If I try to turn off server software, I cannot get into my nucleus to perform the drag and drop! What can I do to get my database back to 17,000 tracks I had running my MacBook Pro as server?
