I've added a Synology NAS to my network which will be my new primary storage location, but the albums I have added have not been picked up by Roon without running a forced rescan. (Roon doesn't seem to be 'watching' the folder.)
Describe your network setup
BT Smart Hub 2, Mac Mini M1 headless running Roon core wired direct to hub, Synology DS223 with 2x 4TB drives in RAID1 configuration wired direct to hub. Endpoints (combination of Bryston, Primare, and iFi connected by wi-fi and BT Mesh wi-fi discs) all streaming music perfectly.
Synology NAS’ “file handle” monitoring functions are deliberately limited for performance reasons.
Force Rescan is the normal workflow in this scenario, and unless you are adding music every minute of the day, it should not be a burden.
There are some tips about increasing the file handles in this thread, which apply even if you are not running Roon on NAS and just using the NAS for storage:
(under “Getting Roon’s Library to Update Automatically”)
But you need to decide whether or not it’s worth making the changes.
Just a little follow up question for @support - I don’t mind forcing a rescan after adding new content but, if i don’t will Roon rescan eventually and pick up the content? It seems Roon is waiting for rather than watching the folders.
