Describe the issue

I am using the free trial version of Roon and I was going to sign up for the yearly subscription but I can't find a way to get Roon to broadcast to two WIIM mini's that are in two room I really want synchronized music in. I have a Wiim Amp and a Pro Plus that are Roon ready and that I can play music from Tidal on in the Roon app. However, as I understand it the Wiim Mini is not supported and even though I can play music from Tidal on all devices in the Miim app, I can't get music via the Roon app in my workshop that has one of the Wiim Mini's. One of the major attractions for me was the ability of Roon to look at my Tidal listening history and personal music collection and make suggestions of music that I may have been unaware of. But as I spend a considerable amount of time in my workshop I can't see the point in getting a subscription for a service that has limited use to me. If there is a simple solution to this please let me know as I would love to be able to use Roon as a true multiroom device.

You can use airplay in Roon to stream to it.

You need to enable the Wiim devices in the Roon settings under audio. You should have the option of either Airplay or Chromecast.

Hi Paul, thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry if my questions seem naive but I’m an old fart and relatively new to all of the streaming possibilities. I did as you suggested and looked at my network settings and the two Wiim Mini’s were recognized. I tried to add these to a group that already included my Wiim Amp and Wiim Pro Plus and the app won’t let me stream to 2 zones. My Amp and Pro Plus are on RAAT and the Mini’s are on Airplay. What is confusing me a little now is that I thought I could maybe just switch all of the devices to airplay, however, while the Pro Plus is also recognized as capable of using airplay, my Amp is not. The only difference that I can think of is that the Amp is hard wired to the ethernet, and the Pro Plus isn’t. Would that prevent it from using airplay? Can I just remove the internet connection and will Roon then recognize the Amp for airplay ? Finally, is there an advantage in using RAAT vs airplay? If you have the patience to have read all of this, my sincere thanks.

Hi there you cannot mix different protocols, but you could enable the Airplay protocol for all devices and create a group with them all in and leave that set up so the devices only show as that one group.

Hi Michael, yes i eventually got the idea that zones (protocols) can’t be mixed and so I tried to use just my Wiim Pro Plus and the 2 mini’s all of which were recognized as airplay devices. After a lot of bad language I got it to play on all three devices … Great! But, its also playing through the Wiim Amp, which is connected to the ethernet ??? This is actually what I wanted to set up but I don’t understand the configuration. The volume control of one of the mini’s is now directly coupled to the output of the Wiim Amp. There is another device listed in the audio settings that has the same name as the mini that is coupled to the Amp but when I add that to the group it crashes the output. I’m certain that I am missing a critical understanding of how Roon looks to integrate devices. I’m pretty sure if they were all Roon ready this wouldn’t be an issue.

You are correct that if they were all RR then it would work nicely.
But you should still have individual volume control for all the WIIM devices even when grouped.
When you click on the volume button you should see all four devices that can be moved up and down for each device
