OK - I have finally got all the pieces for my DIY server assembled after many many hiccups along the way and weeks of delays and postage issues! Resulting in no music! I was eager to get straight on with it and configure the setup! I put my audiolinux O/S on a USB pen drive set the bios boot up and it came up lovely. Next I formatted and partitioned the NVMe m2 SSD (1T) that is connected to the M-ITX motherboard, then entered a basic folder structure for my music files. Then copied my entire music catalogue to the new drive.
Plugged in my NUC i5 and USB DAC (as endpoint).
Fired up Roon on my controller laptop and selected my audiolinux server as the roon server. So far so good! Then hit a brick wall!
Problem scenario: I can’t find a way to ‘point to’ or access the SSD music catalogue? I only appear to be able to ‘browse’ to folders on the audiolinux USB pen drive? ROON doesn’t appear to automatically search for music files on my system? Which by the way are MP3 files. How can I resolve this issue please?
The second issue is, I don’t know how to select my endpoint NUC i5 (& DAC) which is a Intel NUC11 PAHi5 i5 11th Gen. Audiolinux Piero said to look for a ‘zone’? However there isn’t anything that looks like “Intel NUC11 PAHi5 i5 11th Gen.”?
Of course I have activated ROON SERVER on my DIY server via built in to audiolinux O/S configuration; also ROON BRIDGE on my NUC i5 endpoint which also carries the same audiolinux USB pen drive (copy) O/S.
Audiolinux Piero said: “I have done all I can remotely to make sure your server and endpoint are setup correctly for use with ROON, if it doesn’t work you must now reach out to them for help in configuring the ROON half of the equation as I am not legally obliged to troubleshoot ROON issues; I don’t like ROON and prefer HQPlayer, if you to use HQPlayer instead, then you wouldn’t have these issues/problems that plague ROON users!”
I will of course help and assist with any info that you need as long as you tell me where to look for the data you need?
I am willing to have a remote session via anydesk and invite you to take up this offer if it is of any help to you?
ABRIDGED VERSION OF POST 4
Go to: Roon - Settings - Storage - Add folder, to input your music location.
Go to: Roon - Settings - Audio, to look for your Roon endpoints.
Of course this is with a normal Roon setup. I know nothing about what you are doing with your setup.
I tried to add network share: “computer:///run/media/audiolinux/music server/music”, but it didn’t work?
on the file manager in audiolinux the path is: “run/media/audiolinux/music server/music”
You’re not trying to create a new folder. You’re telling Roon where to look for your local music files.
this also didn’t work?
For instance, here’s the path to my handful of albums on my “away from home” Dell laptop Roon server. It’s probably C:\Users\jgera\Music
You should be able to navigate to it.
the endpoint thing ‘unknotted’ itself by powering everything down and letting everything ‘drain’ for a few hours; then power up in REVERSE order and bingo the endpoint appeared in my router and in the ROON interface, the DAC was not named but I could add the name myself (into a blank field), as it came up initially as amanero combo. Then I was able to select it properly from the list of ‘unknowns’! So, that part seems to be fixed for now!
what would you like to know please?
Nothing, but thanks.
yes that is true!
yes I can navigate to it on the server PC using the audiolinux file manager and the path given is: “run/media/audiolinux/music server/music”. But that doesn’t work (as is)?
