I’ve had frequent crashes and dropouts with Roon on my Roon Server, a Mac mini M1 with Sequoia. The Mac mini is hardwired by ethernet to my router. So, I followed the step of toggling off and on again under Local Network, and then rebooted my Mac. After rebooting I reopened Roon, only to find that it doesn’t recognize any of my audio zones. Really, my experience with Roon and Sequoia has been awful! This is unacceptable.
Looks like Roon is not compatible with Sequoia. I will probably have to go to a local Mac store to revert back to an older OS version.
Absolutely terrible the nightmare I’ve had with Sequoia which refuses to recognize any of my USB drives, besides all the dropouts I’ve had with Roon on Sequoia. I have reported this to Apple OS Support, a month ago, but have received no response. It seems all one can do now is frustratingly wait for a macOS update and hope that that resolves the issues. Otherwise, insofar as Roon and Sequoia are concerned, I might have to get a Roon Nucleus, but just so expensive! I’m in South Africa; so, Nucleus One is not available as yet here. So frustrating; just want a stable and reliable Roon Core that does not cut out all the time like with the Mac Mini with Sequoia.
By the way, I received an email notification from Audirvana to say that Sequoia has network issues at present, so one ought not to rush to switch to Sequoia. So, my biggest mistake was switching to Sequoia at this early stage!
Thanks, but we simply cannot work like this. I might have to leave Apple Macs. I have a CalDigit hub connected to my MacBook Pro - that is a thunderbolt setup. Hasn’t helped at all!
If you are running Roon from Sequoia, what has that been like with version macOS 15.1?
Thank you so much!
Are you experiencing any Roon crashes with 15.1?
Thank you. I will update to 15.1 and see what happens.
No, I’m not expecting anything better with my USB issue. What’s more critical for me at this point is whether Roon will still crash all the time with Sequoia after updating to 15.1. Thanks.
Yes, I acted too hastily! As Audirvana has advised, don’t rush to Sequoia.
I sincerely hope that Sequoia does come right!
So, I updated to Sequoia 15.1 yesterday evening, and I’m happy to report that my USB drives are working again.
I played Roon from my Mac mini M1 Roon core / server overnight on my network, and earlier this morning Roon cut out, albeit after several hours of play. I pressed replay and will see what it is like later today when I get home from work.
Yes! They must just resolve the network issues with the next update! Indeed, fingers are crossed, because as I say, the Roon Nucleus is overpriced for what you get, except perhaps with the One.
I arrived home, and saw that Roon had crashed again on my Mac mini M1. So, there are still network issues that hopefully Apple will resolve in a future macOS update.
Got the “too many failures” error frequently after updating to Sequoia; for me the message of death - so annoying. All the Roon crashes so frustrating. Between Apple and Roon so pathetic!
Hi @David_Broughton,
Thank you for bringing your report over to the Roon Community - just a heads up that I’ve separated your responses into their own thread for proper tracking and diagnosis.
For future issues, please create your own thread and post initially. Thanks for your understanding here!
Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network
, and make sure Roon is allowed? If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.
We’ll be on standby for your reply!
That doesn’t work. Roon still crashes. Very unstable with Sequoia.
Thanks for giving that a try @David_Broughton!
While our team investigates further, lets test out refreshing your Roon database. Based on your admin, it’s difficult to tell which machine is your Roon Server. Let me know which machine you plan on using long-term to run Roon Server.
First, test out refreshing the Roon instance (Not Roon Server):
- Create a Backup of your current database
- Exit out of Roon
- Navigate to your Roon Database Location
- Find the folder that says “Roon”
- Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
- Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
- Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
If you are still experiencing issues with your Roon Server crashing, then try refreshing your “Roon Server” folder by following the same directions above, but renaming your folder “RoonServer_Old”. This would again be the Roon Server folder on the machine you plan on using as your long-term server.
Let me know if this makes sense!
